While trying to call it a coupe is silly, I'm all for there being more options -- in this case, BMW buyers get to choose between the more practical 3-Series and more stylish 4-Series sedan, rather than either type of buyer needing to make a compromise (or taking their money elsewhere).

It is being suggested that it will cost £5000 model for model more than the equivalent 4 Series, which is more costly than a 3 Series.......... that is a very profitable trick if you can pull it off. But it does suggest that it will be significantly more costly than the Audi A5 Sportback.

Cannot figure out if it's intended to look sporty or luxurious or even brutish (SUV-like) -- thinking they took the worst aspects of each and glued the parts together. There's nothing consistent about its design theme, IMO. It looks, chunky, even bulbous -- depending on angle. But... Will it see? After all, it's all about profit, even before image, I'm beginning to think. Image and profit should go hand-in-hand, especially in this field.

The 6 Gran Coupe is several thousand more than the regular 6.  I'd expect the same of the 4 Gran Coupe relative to the standard 4 (which is in turn several thousand more than a comparable 3er).

3 series - same
5 series - coupe, sedan
6 series - 5 series coupe - I guess
7 series - sedan, short and long wheelbase
8 series - bring it back, dump the 6 series if you have to

Don't know why the above scenario wasn't enough for bmw. The 4 series is pointless, the gt stuff is trash.

BMW says the 4-series Gran Coupe follows the concept of the 6-series Gran Coupe, which is essentially a reskinned 5-series sold at a nearly $25,000 premium. We are certainly glad that the Bavarians didn't elect to charge a similar amount for the 4-series Gran Coupe. At $41,225 for the 428i and $46,725 for the 435i, they're $3000 and $2400 dearer than their 3-series counterparts.
