If we expand the definition to include pre-Miura hi-po sports cars my pick would be the XK120.

Not that it's a condition for picking whatever we pick, but have you driven one?

Those aren't supercars.

Which one's specifically?

Then it was new the XK120 was the fastest production car on the planet.  The C-type and D-type both won Le Mans; 5 times altogether.

Not supercars.  They were sports cars, but not supercars.

If we define supercars based on their contemporaries, I think the XK120 was the Mclaren F1 of its time.

Although the term 'supercar' was not commonly used in previous eras, this would fit the definition...

as well as the aforementioned Jaguars...perhaps not the Lotus.

Why not?  They were the top performing cars of their era; the best of the breed at the time.  How else would you define a supercar?

Supercars were born with the Miura.

Supercars were born with the Miura.
They merely changed the supercar game.  The term was in use before the Miura came about...the Mercedes-Benz 300SL (1954) for example.

I don't see the Miura "moving any bars" beyond things like the GT40, or the Ferrari GTO. In perspective, its probably less of a supercar than a Bugatti type 41, or a Duesenberg SJ Victoria.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Have you?
Why yes, yes I have.  When I was active in JCNA I drove a couple belonging to other members.  Nice cars, fun to drive, but there are most definately 50's technology and have a 50's feel to them.  Tha's not a knock, just an obsevation.

GT40 was a race car.  Ferrari GTO was a front engined GT car.  The other two I know nothing about.

The GT40 Mark III was also a road car. I never thought being mid engined was a requirement.

I've sat in one and read some drive-along reviews of restorations, evidently it's a fairly raw experience, nicer than its contemporaries but still obvious 1950s tech.

One of the reviews was at some sort of historic track event and all the entrants were struggling. I'd never be interested in anything more than put-putting around town.

Depending on price, that could be a good deal.

I don't think it is. I think a Ferrari 599, Ferrari 250 GTO, Mercedes SL 300 Gullwing, Mercedes-Mclaren SLR and so on are super cars. I don't agree at all that the engine must be in the middle.
The 959 is a super car and the engine isn't in the front or middle.

There have been only a few press drive of prototypes so far. It seems to be well sorted and a fun car to drive. It wouldn't be a good track car at all, but I don't care. I like the way it looks uber-futuristic and the geeky tech factor. Also pricing has been announced for a few european markets and it will come in below the M6's price.

It also won't pay our annual road tax being a hybrid and that is a huge savings on something that expensive.

Today I cannot afford it but in a year or two if thing go well with the company it may not be impossible.
