BMW 2-series "Active Tourer"

- Isn't the 2 Series supposed to be RWD? Why is this not a 1-series?

- If you're going to make a FWD hatchback, why make it with the most uininteresting proportions ever? It looks like the new Kia Carens/Rondo with possibly worse proportions

So the people running a blog dedicated to BMW like a new BMW...?

I'm shocked. Shocked I tell you.

No, it's shocking that they like it given that it's FWD.

Those guys bash anything Audi over there because of the FWD/AWD setup, but "like" this...

You sure they wrote that themselves? It reads like a BMW press piece.

Yeah. That's nothing even remotely close to resembling a real review.

The BMW schnoz looks awful when grafted to that 45 degree MPV hood. Like a bad photochop.

:facepalm:

It's not as though this car will be a complete piece of shit, but when your company's entire mantra has been about "The Ultimate Driving Machine" for the better part of the last 40 years and you come out with what really does look like a knockoff of the latest Kia Rondo (who would have ever imagined a BMW would look like a Kia?!)... it, just... it's ridiculous.

They could never afford to sell this in North America.

This will almost certainly not be disastrous on the level of the Cadillac Cimarron but I think it stands a much better chance of abject failure than success.

Piss-poor brand management...

Don't they have some piddly electric car coming out too? i3? I don't follow automotive news much anymore, and certainly not about BMW, but I do recall reading something about a couple of BMW electric cars: one to compete with the Tesla Model S (or something; higher end consumers, anyway) and one to compete with the Nissan Leaf and cars of that ilk.

Yeah, the i3 is out. You can eat part of the interior.  :lol:

The B class is selling well so this will as well, but I agree they might damage the brand as a whole. This is why they originally bought Rover. The idea was not bad, just executed poorly.

I've completely given up on BMW's naming scheme.  They used to be one of the few companies to do alphanumeric nomenclature, more or less, right, and now it's just a complete and confusing cluster.

Wasn't BMW suppose to have odd number series be 4 doors, and even number be 2 doors, and X be lifted bloated version of the number series?  How does this one fit into this?

Laconian

Now that laypeople have hijacked all semantic meaning from numeric designations (other than "LARGER NUMBER" => "COSTS MORE" => "SOCIALLY SUPERIOR"), we should tweak it to restore some meaning.

If the number is...
Divisible by 2 => V6
Divisible by 3 => V8
Divisible by both 2 and 3 => I4
Prime => V10+ (Exotic)
Expressible as the sum of two cubes => Bender

So, badge-conscious idiots get to compare numeric magnitudes to assess where a car lies on the social hierarchy, but the real geeks can still crack the code and know what's up.

I think they should just put a penis next to the badge, and the bigger the penis is, the more expensive you know the car was.

Green-colored penis. It's not an STD, it means that your car is a very *expensive* performance hybrid. But it's OK to spend that much because you're saving the earth. Thankssssss

Back to the topic at hand - what does BMW stand for?

It seems like their list of principles is becoming more and more abstract with every passing generation.

Is it even of any consequence that a given manufacturer possesses or lacks "values"?

I'm not sure that building driver's cars is a good long term strategy at this point. We're nearing the point when autonomous cars take over.

Technologically, perhaps. Legally, it'll be fifty years.

Because this has a blue and white roundel on it while the Focus has a blue oval.

Because this is taller, and will be nicer inside.

This goes directly against the B-class.
