That's weird...I wonder what it does.

Hub meter.

Lots of countries tax their trucking by mileage. Those that do, tend not to trust the odometers on the rigs themselves: so the truckers have to buy a special "calibrated" hub meter so the tax collectors will be aware of any tampering.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Can't say I've ever seen a hubometer that looked quite like that.  All of the ones I've ever seen mounted via a hat section to the end caps on the axles.

The ones we use are just for maintenance purposes.

ehh, looks like you're right. They're sold under the name Rodoar.

Seems like an overkill device with a lot of potential for problems to have on every single truck through.

I'd guess not all trucks have them, it's a nice luxury-

Unless they're required by law, which might be the case too.

You would know what it is.

I would have never thought of that but it makes sense.

I think it's remote inflation/deflation for the tires.

It is. Brand name is Rodoar.

Still not sure why it seems to be so popular.

I don't think Brazil has the greatest road system still. There may be areas where heavy trucks need to travel but can move easier if they air down their tires. Or maybe small punctures are common and it's a way to try and keep up with the leak until you can deliver your load or get to a station.

That's a great local brewery that we have. Do I drink their beer? No.

Aha I was kinda right about the puncture thing:

http://www.balancatraca.com.br/produto_rodoar.html (if your browser isn't for dinosaurs it should ask to translate)

Sounds like it must be mostly regulatory for being so common though. Unless they pave their speed bumps with old nails or something.

This.   Crappy roads and debris everywhere, probably saves a whole ton of time switching out tires all the time.....

They're on about half the trucks, sometimes only the front/rear axle, etc. Kinda random.

My initial thoughts were air lines, but I was thinking for the brakes. And that's a good way to have someone sabotage your truck if you put your brake lines out in the open line that. My other thought was some sort of wheel lock, but stealing a wheel off a semi would be way too much work...

Cut the airlines to the brakes on a truck, and the brakes won't ever release, and the truck won't ever go anywhere.

Still, seems like something likely to cause more problems than it helps.
