Every goddamn thread. Everything is a bad idea. Everything is a poor financial decision.

Come on man, stop throwing temper tantrums.  It is a bad financial decision and we'd be remiss to not mention it.

I know you don't want want to hear this, but you already have a perfectly good car.  Remember the old saying about how there's nothing more fun than driving a slow car quickly?  Enjoy the Yaris for what it is and save your money for something more important.

And yes, I am a boring old fart!  :tounge:

Nonsense.  Anyone with a half an ounce of gasoline in his veins would be bored out of his skull having to drive a Yaris for more than a week.  The kid should have some fun and he can worry about being financially responsible after he gets a real job.  Anyways, if the pattern holds true, he'll flip it a make money on it.

Is the Yaris really that bad? I have a hard time believing a ~20 year old civic is going to be more fun to drive.

If I was in your position and wanted something more fun to drive I'd probably first see if there are any aftermarket suspension improvements you could make and look at a better wheel/tire package.

8-11 years old: and yes, it would be. I'd have a really hard time thinking that any amount of suspension bolt on bits on a Yaris could come close to closing that gap either.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

A Maserati Biturbo is far from boring!!!

I always find roadside engine fires quite exciting myself.

I say mod the Yaris's suspension and stuff. Cheaper, known quantity.

It can't. I mean, the Yaris would be fun, but a DWB Honda is the bees knees.

Too bad they've all been wrecked or riced.

Honda fixes very few things concerning 30 year old low buck Maseratis.

Random thoughts (I didn't read the whole thing):
-The IS is fun and looks good, but insurance will cost more in a year than your Yaris did to buy.
-The Integra is a great choice. It's a lot more fun losing your car in a parking lot when there are significant odds that it may have actually been stolen instead.
-I hate the Fit. It's an ugly, noisy, cheaply made wagon that Honda finally decided to start selling here several years into it's life cycle and milked for way longer than they should have.
-Don't buy the Cressida if you're looking for something less boring.
-The MR2 is awesome and very impractical, which might be good for you right now.
-If you buy a Dodge Omni/Colt/whatever other badges it carried, I will drive to Ohio and punch you in the face. It's a terrible car (we had one when I was much younger).

You're my age.  We're getting old.  Plus, now that you're married, your life expectancy has gone way down, since you're more likely to be poisoned by your wife.

The Fit is very agile, and the Omni can be made to make stupid amounts of HP

MR2s are great, just know they can be kind of a pain to work on with the whole mid-engine layout. But they're reliable when maintained so you shouldn't be digging around the boot too often.

I've driven past a couple of car fires.  The last two were a Civic Si coupe (the old model, pre-EP3) and a Nissan Altima (recent model).

SVT Focus is a great choice, though they do have an aura of fragility about them.  I'd take the Honda over it most likely, even though the SVT might be the more fun car.
SVT Focus is still the most fun car I have ever owned.  If I could get my old car back, I would.  The problem isn't fragility, it's that parts are rare.  The engine was unique to that car and Ford doesn't support it anymore.  It's an interference engine and if the timing belt goes, you are SOL since there were only like 5500 cars built over 3 years and finding a used engine won't be easy or cheap.

They are correct though.

My vote is the Miata- those things are so much fun to just drive with the accelerator on the floor!  And no helmet! better than a motorcycle!!!

The Omni is also a genuinely terrible car. Door handles just break (for seemingly no reason), the driver's seat came off the track when it was slid back a little harder than normal, the horn literally never worked, interior trim falls apart (the headliner was peeling within 4 years), and it needed to be towed several times for mechanical failures. And my parents bought that car new.
