So as if the >400hp Golf revealed wasn't enough to get the attention of enthusiasts a week or so ago, they just completely blow the roof off the joint with this 525 HP inline 5 powered RS3 concept.
Good god this thing is beautiful.

More like VaG proves that they like to turn out a lot of concepts they'll never produce. E-tron this, e-tron that, quattro this, quattro that, clubsport whatever.

I would like to see VW make a modern version of the SP2.  Arguably the most attractive vehicle to wear a VW badge.

You just wish BMW would still have the balls to do things like this

And since the R400 Golf is going into production, its reasonable to think the production RS3 will not be too far away from this concept... Which would utterly stomp anything BMW has

If by production you mean 20 units, I totally agree with you. Just like the "laser lights" R8.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the TT-RS powertrain show up in the RS3.  I would be surprised to see it making the 500+ hp of this concept, as that would not only stomp anything BMW makes, but also anything in the Audi stable.  I really don't see Audi making an RS3 that will stomp the RS4 or R8 supercar.  At least not at the expected price point of somewhere lower than the aforementioned, higher-end Audi models.

Exactly. They won't produce this in any number that is relevant.
These are just to generate buzz with LOOK MA LOTS OF POOOWAAAAAHHHHHH

Real innovation and risk taking is commiting billions to increase carbon-fiber capacity and building the first real production cars out of the stuff (tens of thousands of units). Wait for the new CF 7. The i3 and i8 are already here and a generation more advanced than this thing that could be turned out by a tuner.

O god the understeer

Golf chassis can handle no more than ~250HP.... start throwing more at it, as Keichi says, 'ooooo unda unda unda'. They overleveraged the hell out of that poor platform.

Lap times from the TT-RS prove otherwise

12,000 RPM

Lap times where compared to what? It's slower around  a mediumish size track than the significantly less powerful/torquey Cayman S

Take away gimmicky launch control and these overpowered Golfs don't leave you much to talk about. The chassis/balance is just not there like in a WRX

What's the limiting factor that determines how much it can "handle"? And I have no idea what that last sentence is supposed to mean.

Let's look at C&D Lightening Lap results...http://www.caranddriver.com/features/lightning-lap-2013-hot-cars-hot-track-hot-laps-feature-lightning-lap-2013-complete-lightning-lap-times-2006-to-2013-page-10

Let's see at #48 it was faster than the M3, M5, M6, 1M, C63 & E63 AMG, Shelby gt500, camaro SS, C6 base corvette, 370Z, ect.... Clearly it is an under steering pig that can't handle its power
2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee No Speed -- 2004 Mazda RX8 6 speed -- 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia All Speed

r0tor

Furthermore, on the C&D lightening lap results, it puts down faster laps then where its power to weight ratio would suggest for VIR - meaning it handles its power better then average among the best sporting cars on the road

Whatever factor makes it hella understeery, or slower/less grippy than cars with slower straight line speed + similar tires

That's not necessarily my fault

Seems pretty clear to me though... you have a platform underpinning everything from a $20K economy car to a $70K sports car something's gotta give. The TT should have its engine between the cabin and rear wheels, not way out ahead of the front wheels.

Overpriced shitboxes that put in the price range of real cars. The only people who would even consider half of that trash are Dbag VW Golf/Jetta drivers.

Also, instead of useless show cars, BMW is actually testing the next M2 on the Nürburgring:

Have you driven the car?

Well, you know the drill.

r0tor

Any car that has 4 wheels is an economy car... A V8 is just 2 econobox 4 bangers, a V12 is 3.  Econoboxes have turbo I3s so a twin turbo I6 is just two of those put together.  A 911 is obviously still just a 1960s era beetle.  An M3 is just an expensive 3 series which is in itself just an overly priced Fiesta since they share a McPhearson strut front suspension and the BMW just uses two Fiesta turbo 3 bangers.  A corvette is really just a lowered pick up truck.   Muscle cars are no different - just an econobox with two engines.
