I think you guys misinterpreted my post entirely....

I merely said the D segment is smaller than the B and C segments. You guys have even confirmed this SEVERAL times on this very forum.

No, you said:

Besides, Europe by in large ignores this segment anyways. This car needs to be in other markets as well in order to make money.

Which is like saying that America by in large ignores cars like the Fusion, and the Corolla just because the pickup trucks and SUVs are at the top.

It was the 10th biggest selling car in Europe in 2013, with over 200,000 cars sold ............  Clearly that means it is unpopular as a massive 9 other cars outsold it.

Passat dropped out of the list of best selling cars because it is ancient. That is the reason they are replacing it.

For the German market in 2001 VW sold 139,203. In 2013 they were down to 61,088

Point being it's not top 10. Im not sure what expertise is required. The info just requires a Google search.

http://left-lane.com/european-car-sales-data/volkswagen/volkswagen-golf/

Europe is down a lot since its peak, but the Golf went from outselling the Passat 2:1 to 3:1. It's worse at Ford... Focus went from outselling the Mondeo 2:1 to 5:1, while the Focus itself is below half its peak whereas the Golf is still at about 60% (since '97). In a year where Europe's car sales were down 1.8% midsize sales were down ~22%. No matter what data you look at, if you look at the data there's nothing that doesn't coincide with 2o6's assessment.

QuoteThe Renault Megane – new model launched in 2013 – and the Volkswagen Passat – new model due in 2014 – were the two cars to have dropped out of the top ten in 2014.

The list was for 2013 sales.  The Passat was not in the top 10 for 2013.  It was in the top 10 for 2012.

Though, even the European B7 wasn't much of improvement over the B6, actually design-wise AND content-wise it was a downgrade. The B6 had STANDARD LED taillights and projector headlights, the B7 had bulb taillights and reflector headlights (WTF, even the B5 had standard projector HL) as standard.

And De Silva should go. His clean simple lines design philosophy is damaging the brand and turning it into a snore fest. Let him continue apply that where it belongs, to Skoda. The thick front bumper is horrible, the entire front fascia is.

Yea Im not feeling VW's current design language at all. Too blocky/straight edged; looks cheap and dated. Thankfully the Golf came out unscathed but its a shame the Passat had to be a casualty. It was a damn sexy car for damn near 15 yrs

Well, you aren't willing to pay for a superior product, so why should i feel bad for ya?

PS: Here in Dubai (and the entire Middle East) we also get the US made Passat, which is a total BS cause it sells for the same price as the old B6 but with less equipment. I like the Passat, but i don't really like the CC, and I definitely wouldn't want the Chattanooga made barge.
