Heard about this site a while ago, and only just decided to start posting a little.  I used to be a member of automobileforum.com - way back in the undergrad days...2001 - 2007 or so.  And I think there are a few guys over here that posted there too.

Anyway - currently driving two cars.  A 2012 VW TDI and a 1971 MGB.  The latter is worthy of an image, I think.  A few things need to worked out on it - the front bumper is period incorrect (and poorly fitted).  But the body is straight, there's no rust, and the mechanically it runs beautifully (with a slight fan belt squeal when it warms up, that's being investigated).

Awesome - thanks for the welcome.

I've wanted something British, and old and possibly topless for a while.  When Elizabeth Hurley stopped returning my calls I realized it would probably have to be a sports car.

Getting married cemented that.

Hey MX - good to hear from you.     <--Man, that smiley is still just as great as I remember.

Things have been pretty good.  I did finish law school, working for the government, now.  Which is decent.  Good work life balance.  Interesting, too.

You were in engineering, right?  I'm thinking aeronautical?  Man, it has been a while.

Yep - I was.  Way back probably 2001 - 2002 or so.  Jumped over to the old AF.  I was in undergrad, and had quite a bit of free time to post about cars.  Got to be honest, kind of miss those days!

I vaguely remember some spirited debates about whether or not it was proper to post about Ford Mustangs and Honda Civic Sis in the 'Sports Car Section', instead of the 'GT Car section'...

We cured that by merging them.  The argument about what is and isn't a sports car is still going though.

Awesome - thanks for the welcome guys.  It's great to be talking cars online, again.  Of course, out of University, and in the working world, I'm guessing the marathon all day (week?) debates over Camaros and S2000s have probably subsided somewhat.

I've only had the MG for about a month now - but it's been a fantastic car.  It has it's quirks.  Obviously, more than any other car I've owned.  But it's also the most fun car I've ever owned... despite what the performance numbers would have you believe.

It probably feels like most European roadsters of the era - tossable. Lovely machine.  :ohyeah:

Maybe not Camaro vs S2000, but there's alot of stupid bullshit in pretty much every Camaro/Mustang/Pushrods r gay threads...

Welcome - I used to hang out on C&D too. I try to get to Brit car shows when I can, MGs are usually very well represented so there's no shortage of expertise out there.

P.S. The squabbles here are almost 100% confined to politics in the General Section. Don't let that put you off

Wow, this is pretty much the secret CarSPIN handshake. Final step for entry into the brotherhood is to drink 8 oz of ox blood in 1 gulp.

Shaman was great. My fondest Shaman tall tale was him claiming he could verify a car's quarter mile time by watching it on a straightaway. Early internet trolls were always the best.

Let me add my own welcome to you.

As the forum's only (currently active) native of and resident Brit, I do of course heartily approve of your MG, and am delighted to see that you have a nice chrome bumpered one before the looks and the raised ride height, urm,  "changed" it!

Like Herr Wimmer, I also love older and classic machines, but unlike him, I'm nothing like as enthusiastic on US stuff from the 1970s........... my automotive heart is pretty firmly anchored in Italy, with a pre war Alfa my absolute dream car.

Sweet MGB! I see MGB coupes on bringatrailer all the time and want one badly.

I took a '66 GT for a quick spin a couple days back.  Man, what an awesome car.  Totally different feel from the convertible.  A very cool car - not sure I'd switch - top down motoring in a classic roadster is a pretty phenomenal feeling... but I'd be tempted.  And the Pininfarina lines of the roof aren't going out of style anytime soon...

Haha - nice.  I took a test drive in an '84 Alfa Spider before I bought this one.  The twin cam four made a powerful argument.  The fact that I had to turn the wheel about 1/3 of the way around before I saw any movement made a stronger counter argument.  Dude was asking $11 k for it too... not surprisingly it's still sitting on the lot.

Yeah - so far I can see why.  I've actually heard pretty decent things about MGB reliability... on the whole.  There's always some lemons out there.  But the fact that you can do a lot of the work on them, yourself.  Combined with the price of replacement parts, makes them a pretty powerful argument for a first classic car.

Nothing's gone significantly wrong yet - and my electrical system works wonderfully (I'll now have to kill a chicken, kneel in middle of a pentagram, and recite ancient Celtic prayers backwards in honor of Lucas, and in apology for my hubris).
