Someone shopped this, it appears. Imagine if there had been a Ford Crown Victoria Station Wagon. Why are my balls tingling?

And that was the high performance model.  Just imagine how slow the regular car was with ~20% less power.

Marauders had the 302 hp twin cam motor from the Mach 1 Mustang of the same vintage.

Looks decent to me. But I do get it. When a 4-cylinder Camry has "the same" performance statistics, then this car would be really slow.

By the standards of ~10 years ago, it was a bit quicker than the average 4-cylinder midsizer (the fastest of them were roughly even with it), and even some V6 midsizers.  It wasn't really any faster than the other full-sizers out here like the Olds Aurora or Pontiac Bonneville and was well slower than the last "full-size hot rod": the mid-90s Impala SS.

In terms of boxiness, I'd say the early Volvo 740 wagon gave Ford/Mercury a run for their money.

Add a roof rack and some simulated wood grain to that and you might have a winner.

Boxier in some ways, less in others, about the same all in. Like I said, you just can't have a car that's boxier.
