CX-3 is gonna crush it. I can't knock Mazda's hustle, though it would have been nice. Just buy a CX-3, paint the fenders and get lowering springs. Boom, super 2.

Except at least 5-7k more expensive, and automatic only.

The iA would be acceptable if it were available in hatchback form.

I've decided to pay tribute to the Mazda 2 the best way I know how.

Screw you, Mazda.  We'll just buy the old one at a 40 per cent discount!

The auto-only CX3 isn't a good alternative to the 2. Seriously, the iA is so fucking ugly. I can't believe they decided to bring that over instead of the 2.

I suspect Mazda was forced to choose between selling the 2 and the iA since they don't have the capacity for both, and Mazda wants Toyota's hybrid tech, so that may be the reason for this very questionable move.

The iA is literally just a fascia swap away from a Mazda 2, but the Mazda 2 sedan isn't good looking

Or cash reserves, just as likely, since their upcoming partnership is about more than this one product.

Well, I predict the iA to be a total sales dud, so maybe that will free up some Mazda2 hatchback capacity!

So are we not getting the 2 hatch at all anymore or will the scion have a hatch version

The former, it seems.

The dealers are probably happy not having to deal with the 2 anymore

U guys would not have bought this. There are so many better offerings on the used market. Hell the new market too.

I was legit looking at one. Hell before I bought the 4Runner I was legit looking at the current (old?) 2 but they didn't have any manuals in the city so I decided to pass.

The new 2 looks fucking good and has an amazing interior. It would have been a great, fun DD. Yeah there are better deals (more fun, more room, etc) but I wanted a small car with good MPGs, looks and that was fun to drive.

If it was priced identically to the Fit, I would have bought one.

The subcompact class hits pretty hard on the value front; compact cars are getting very expensive.

And I don't necessarily want a used car.

Honda is REALLY tempting me with the new Fit. Before tax, the Fit is like 16K even for a manual Fit LX. And the base LX comes with bluetooth, cruise, keyless entry, PL, PW, AC.....

a Civic is 2-3K more.....

The Mazda 3 I drove a few weeks ago that I liked stickered at 26K, and it was a 2.0L.

The iA would be OK if I could get the hatchback, then I could live with the fugly face. But it's an ugly sedan...

The fit is a lot of car for the money. Great interior packaging, decent amount of features, great gas mileage, all for a competitive price. I'd get one over a civic for sure. Probably even over the new Mazda 2 if it was offered here.

They're cheap enough I've honestly thought about getting one to commute in instead of the Genesis. That's a huge savings.

Yeah, I'm not saying I'd pay that much for a 3 or that it's even worth it. I was just extremely surprised how nice the inside of a compact car was, with the leather, navigation, lane departure system, etc.

Wasn't the point of the Genesis to have a more pleasant car to spend your time in? A new Fit won't be much more comfortable than an old Element.

If you really want a Mazda 2, you'll have to go to Puerto Rico to buy one.

Since Puerto Rico is kinda sorta part of America, the new 2 is fully US-legal.  Budget a few hundred bucks to ship the car from San Juan to Miami and drive it the rest of the way home!

Still, it seems odd that Mazda would bother going through all the Federal certification hurdles just to sell the car in PR.  Does the island even have more than one Mazda dealer?  How many 2s do they really think they can sell there?

I'm not sure.

I'm not sure about anything. It'd be different if the thing wasn't certified at all, and wasn't sold in any U.S. affiliated lands, but in order for a car to be sold in Puerto Rico, it has to be federalized, and good to go in the U.S, no?

Just do it. The thing is already done...

$30K for a fully loaded 3 makes sense. Factor in inflation and content guys. A fully loaded 3 2.5 is about as nice/refined/fast a car as an old Millenia, which was like $35K new 20 years ago. No need to load em up either... a base 3 2.0 is a very nice car for not a lot of money.
