180 km/h is a common speed limiter setting for cars made in Asia.  My Nissan and Mazda were both limited to that speed.  So was my V6 Mustang, but that was due to structural limitations of the driveshafts Ford fitted to those cars.

Neither my actual Mazda nor my rebadged Mazda (Probe) had speed limiters

To my knowledge it was the Japanese cars for their domestic market that had a speedometer that would only go to 180 km/h - even if the cars could obviously do more. The best examples are the sports cars like the Nissan Skyline R33 or R34, which has a 180 km/h speedometer despite being much quicker. This was also the time when they ,,limited" their cars to ,,280-horsepower" max - on paper.

I believe the 280-horsepower limit has been long abolished, but I am not sure if their speedometers still only go to 180 km/h.

I don't see the issue. I doubt Volvos are very popular in Germany, and IIRC everywhere else has speed limits. This news clip has really brought out the dumbasses in droves. "I top my car out every 4th Sunday to clean my radiator"

It's not the speedometer that's limited, the cars themselves are capped at 180 km/h.  At least as sold in the Japanese market.  Both my Mazda and Nissan had speedometers that went over 180 km/h, but both cars were governed to that speed.  The current GT-R actually can detect when it is not being operated on a public street so that the speed limiter can be removed for track use.

No one is going to drive a Volvo over 50mph anyway, it doesn't really matter.

Volvo's actually sell very well here. In all honesty a top speed of 180 km/h is fast enough. It's rare that you can speed unobstructed these days.

Those who want to drive faster will buy more powerful and non-limited cars. But the EU is also planning on limiting the top speeds of cars.

The German car industry is vehemently against speed limits.

Ah. I do remember JDM cars until like the mid-2000s had speedometers that only displayed 180 km/h top speed.

I heard about the GTR's ability to detect whether or not you're on a public road or a track. Cool stuff.

RX8s top out around 145MPH.  The probe/mx6 was around 140mph.

I wonder how BEV's would do in situations like escaping a forest fire? Gas/Diesel cars struggle, and they can shut off, trapping occupants and burning people alive.

BEV's I feel like would fare much worse; high ambient temps I feel like would overheat the battery pretty quickly.

I didn't say every Japanese car was limited to that speed, just that it was a common governor setting.  Also, JDM vehicles are not always identical to their North American counterparts.  The MX6 might have done 140 as configured for the American market, but what about the JDM model?

A proper sports car...All-new Morgan Plus Six takes top spot from departed Plus 8

The body weighs less than 220 pounds, the whole car comes in at 2,365 pounds.

With the naturally aspirated BMW N62 4.4-liter V8 retired, the Bavarian B58 takes its place — the same 3.0-liter, turbocharged inline-six as in the Toyota Supra. The Morgan makes the same 335 horsepower as the Supra, but four more pound-feet of torque, at 369. The V8 got 367 horsepower, but only came with a manual. Shifting the Plus SIx with its ZF eight-speed automatic, the new roadster dashes to 60 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds, at least 0.3 seconds quicker than the Plus 8.

If I had $120k to drop on a toy car, I could definitely see myself going for that over a more mainstream car in that price range.

But it has a POS unreliable BMW engine. Needs a Toyota V6.

I've never seen one (any Morgan, I mean) IRL.  Have you?

I've seen a handful of the "older" Morgans around here. They don't look like genuine 1930s cars. I've never seen the allure. To me they are like the Neo-Classics that were popular in the United States in the 1970s and 1980s a la Zimmer, Panther, Excalibur etc.

Not many - probably 2 or 3 on the streets. A few more if you count car shows.

Well, the thing with Morgan is that if you like one Morgan, you like them all. Which works for me, because I like them.

Why in the name of everything that's right in the world would you

A: put a rear facing collision sensor Inside The Car?

B: trigger emergency braking when the vehicle is going forward And an object approaching from the rear is on a collision course?

The sensor is in the mirror, facing forward. His flag triggered it.
