Or order from fortune auto and when lyft rider asks why your car feels bumpy you can show them the dyno curve

I could probably hit 34 if I coasted down the continental divide with the car off.

Admittedly, I doubt I could get 33+ again since switching to my current wheels and tires.  I did a ~630 mile round trip last weekend and averaged 31.8 for the trip (30.9 out, 32.7 back).  I did a couple of similarly long trips on my old tires and average over 33 mpg, with one tank averaging 35 mpg and change.  Car probably would have done even better if it didn't have the shorter rear-end ratio.

Nah you specifically said highway, and I gave you my highway mileage in every scenario (cruise on/off).

If you're telling me mileage for "a...tank" and not what you average across all tanks, my first instinct is to assume you cherry picked your best trip ever, and that you typically make less.

We took it on a 240 mile trip to wine country through towns, highways, and back country roads.  It used 5.7 gallons of 87 octane gasoline (otherside known as 42mpg) which is 10-20% cheaper than diesel.

You need to come in on a trip like that in the 45-50mpg range just to come even in $/mile.

Then you have to account for the price increase of the TDI engine.  The performance hindrances.  The hindrances of finding diesel stations, cold start issues, clatter of the injectors, and a wheezy engine.

The advantages of diesels has been rapidly disintegrated by modern gas engines advancements.

Ah, so when you said, "I average 42 mpg highway," what you meant was, "I averaged 42 mpg on this one trip up some way out-of-the-way backcountry roads." That's cool. I did 45 mpg once in the Aveo going to Winter Park after a snowstorm because I couldn't drive faster than 55 mph.

Depending on price, that could be a good deal.

We did the 240 mile trip in 4 hrs with traffic... Nice try

Our "highway" average in your terms was probably mid 40s.

Not really in the mood to chase your bouncing goalposts buddy, regardless of the ever-changing manner in which you wish to describe this trip, it's still just a single trip, and you've made no mention of your mileage on any other occasion. And yet earlier you accused me of cherry picking "a single stretch of road," despite the fact that I've been posting EVERY highway trip I have available. :nutty:

We only have taken it on 1 trip... Did ~42 mpg in each direction.

I'm not the one starting a thread about unremarkable fuel economy.

Those on the fly computers aren't that accurate. It's most accurate to do it via hand calculations
I checked mine against Fuelly recordings. It's close enough. I still use the trip computer on each tank for a pseudo double check, but for the most part mine is on point.

Those computers are often tied to the low fuel warning system, so if they were inaccurate at all it would be on the conservative side. Even still though, I think they are pretty accurate for the most part.

I'd wager they're more accurate than relying on random gas pumps to all shut all at the same level of fill. On board systems look at injector firing amongst other things.

I checked it against the pump on my first fuel-up and it was spot on.

Took a little ride the other day to visit an inmate out of county. I was stuck at 55-56 on the way out, came back down to 52 by the end with a little in-town driving both before, during, and after the trip and a 300ft change in elevation (dropping going out). Probably 160-175 miles total.

Dang never thought I'd say this, but I'd like to drive across Nebraska, just to see what it can do on a flat stretch of road. I guess I could take it down the Florida coast.

This is pretty fucking nuts. I was set on a Volt but now I'm thinking about those JSWs again. Def prefer the JSWs in every way but the cool powertrain. Shame they dont make a hybrid version
