Next to the e brake handle

I see you've done the manual to auto swap. Couldn't handle a real transmission, huh.

I use my phone for GPS too, so it needs to be where I can see it.

I turn on the lady's voice so I don't have to see the map. The lady goes in my cupholder and talks to me.

In this state, it's illegal to handle your phone at all while driving, be it for texting, calling, or using it as a GPS or music player.  Unmarked Tahoes everywhere patrolling explicitly for ticketing people using cell phones while driving.  I don't have a windshield or dash mount for it, so it stays tucked away.

I've never actually used the GPS feature on my phone.  I generally look at and memorize the route I want to take before I leave, or pull over and check google maps if I get lost.

I don't use my phone as a music player ever.  I'm not one of those people who needs to have music in their ears all the time, and so don't feel at all compelled to have music (and earbuds) on hand at all times.  Mustang can play music off a thumb drive.  I've got a few gigs of music on a memory stick in that car.  The Mazda didn't have an Aux input, so I just relied on good old FM radio, a CD, or nothing.  Jetta also doesn't have an Aux input, but it will play MP3s off of CD and has a 6 disc changer, so I've got some CDs loaded up with MP3s.  Enough to not have to hear the same song twice in any given trip I'll take with it.

Ohio is super lax. If I'm at a standstill, I'll send texts or change music from my phone.

I think I like that air vent mount idea. Looks really clean.

Your Jetta is a MkV, right?  I thought all the early models had them in the glove compartment?  My Jetta had it in the center console storage, but I think that was new for 2008.

Why don't you just keep it in your pocket if you're doing spirited driving?

Taking it in and out of pockets to edit music is a pain in the butt. When the roads get twisty it's easier for my to chuck it between my legs

Not really sure what it's for originally, but I put it in the little space just behind the window switches (left of them in the picture)

Yeah, I keep my phone on the door, easier to grab when getting out of the car and won't get in the way.  It's only on the center consol when charging, although i'm thinking putting a Qi charger somewhere there so I can just put my phone there

Poked around the glove box and found nothing there.  The head unit also doesn't have a button for for Aux; just AM/FM/CD.  According to some posts I found in the VW boards, '07 was the first year for Aux inputs on the MkV.

I use the TomTom I keep in the car for in car navigation.

In the M-B I use the radio or plug an MP3 player into the aftermarket Jack I installed.  I've used the in trunk changer twice.  It's just too inconvenient tucked away back there.

The 6 does not have an aux input jack, but does have an in dash 6 disc changer.  In town I usually listen to NPR on FM and on a trip, if we don't take the M-B, I take several CD's.  I might mount an Aux input jack somewhere in the 6.  The one I mounted in the M-B I got from Crutchfield and it works like a charm.

It works great and doesnt look like an 8th graders erector set project... even when im driving fairly "spirited" it keeps my phone planted.

It's a bitch to text on this thing, too!

They did, it's on the other side in RHD versions:

TBH shifter placement is just fine on the Civic.

Maybe it's the picture, but the placement is fine and it never feels out of reach or like you're stretching to get to it.  I genuinely really like the interior a lot, especially how driver angled it is.

That totally blocks your view.  Especially at an intersection or crosswalk.  Especially when there is a phone in it.  If you put your phone in the holder, it would be exactly like having a third A-pillar in that 2nd photo.
