AWD/RWD, available 6 speed manual, 241 hp starts at $37k, 322 hp I6 M235 starts at $45k.

I think it looks terrific inside and out, and unlike the Miata it's not horribly more expensive in Canada (20% more vs 50+% more for the Miata).

Officially on my radar.

Indifferent, but I should give them credit for it being rwd and more importantly a car.

CALL_911

Not a fan of the cabriolet, but I really really want a RWD M235i coupe.

A buddy of mine runs a performance driving school and is an avid drifter. He recently sold his 130i E87 and got an M235i Coupe. Reminds me - I need to shoot that baby.

That looks sweet.  This is what the 3 series should be.

I'd personally go for the 228i coupe with track pack of the 2 series range.

The verts look fine and fortunately aren't that heavy because soft top, so still a solid choice. Test drive both, I am pretty sure the 228i is the pick.

I like 4 seat convertibles when the kids are with us. I rented a Mustang vert on Maui last year and it was great.

We have one in the showroom.

I don't see the hype

I don't think it's over-hyped at all.

It's a solid entry-lux convertible priced not much more than the Mustang ragtop.

4 seat convertibles...gross

In a pinch (pun intended) it's nice to have the rear seats on occasion. It's also really handy to one-arm your groceries into the back seat with the top down. I like that this car has a rudimentary back seat, and it's actually a selling point for me.

I do believe it's based on what it's like to drive, not based on what it looks like when parked.

This IS the 3 series. The current 3 is the 5. The 5 is the 7 and the 7 is a limo.

I remember my uncle's E21 320i. It had roll up windows and cost a shit load of money. But it was cool and just felt different from my parents' Japanese commuters. This thing is as pure as BMWs come.

......because the cool thing @ the Spin is discussing the nuances of the power to weight evolution of true sports cars with 155hp (or was it 160?)........

No kidding.  The 3 series should not have grown.  It should have stayed this size.

Why? It's a better car for 95% of the people who buy it. It's a 5 series for 3 series money. That's progress. Plus its moving up allows the 2 to be more focused. A 2 sedan would be cool but I doubt anyone would buy it (and it would probably be hideous).

To be fair, I do like the way the 228i drives a lot, but I don't think its the second coming.

I still think it's a little odd looking, and it'd be better if it were a hatchback. I wish i could compare it to a Mini (we are one of the few BMW dealers that DOESNT sell Mini)

Char

I hate convertibles, I would love to have this in 228i (coupe) form with a LSD.

Do you even read the things you post, before you post them?
In what universe would this compete with the mini because both of them are hatchbacks? You want a wagon, I'm sure BMW makes the ugly 3 series GT :vomit:

Why the fuck did I unblock you

I want to compare it to a Mini because it's a hatchback that's about the same size (sort of) as a 2 series, drive wheels non withstanding. A Cooper S and 228i are roughly comparable.

Also, have you actually been inside a 3GT? It's a really useful shape and probably the most practical 3 series variant

CJ

The worst thing about the current 3-Series is size.  It's pretty big outside, but the inside still feels tiny.  It's bright and airy (good!!!), but the back seat is way too small.

Raza

The 2 cabriolet looks really good, actually.  I'm pleasantly surprised.

The 3 series has a nice back seat for a RWD compact sedan. The car with no rear seat room goes to the ATS and A4.

I'd really like to side with you against Char-tard, but you're not making sense. That's like saying the Focus ST compares with the Mustang Convertible. The Mini is a completely different animal that better compares to the upcoming FWD 1-series BMW.

To us they are different but to the avg person they are both small coupes.

Dunno man, I can't see the average person cross shopping the two... they are too different. I don't see how an entry lux RWD convertible compares with a FWD hatchback that's in a much lower price category.
