The Perfect Car

cawimmer430

A Mercedes-Benz 230TE Touring C123.

A great blend of decent performance and fuel economy coupled to sympathetic styling, high load capacity and interior space and bulletproof reliability. And if something should go wrong, it can be fixed (DIY) by anyone with a basic understanding of automotive engineering.

Look no further, this is the PERFECT car.  :praise:

I think my answer would be the 997.2 GT3 RS or the Cayman GT4

Damn, 997.2 GT3RS 4.0 is also a great choice...

So is the 991 GT3, but there is the MT thing which wouldn't be a deal breaker but is a half step down from straight perfection

Read the OP.  It's not a "do it all" car.
I read it perfectly fine! The 911 blends luxury and performance into and All weather package unlike the RWD Corvette! That's why I used the term do it all.

Me too.  I love that car.

It's kind of the car that was huge right when I was really getting into cars and getting my license (I was ~15 when it came out).  And a local dealership had one in their showroom, so I got to go see it in the flesh, take pictures, etc.  Sealed the deal for me. I love them so much.

This one is tough

Off the top Im gonna say that new V6 Exige. Theres really nothing else. Maybe the 1M? Probably the 1M. E39 M5 too, that is good out of the box.

What's wrong with what SVT and I picked?

FWIW the Elise is a good choice but I've always been scared of that bonded aluminum chassis and the fact that pretty much any fender bender can total the car. That alone would keep me from wanting it and keeps it from being a perfect car to me.

Well, it's Craig's thread, it goes without saying of course he did it right. What you picked is wrong because it's not the Boxster version (that is to say that it's not perfect to me). But you did do it right.

So did I, I just had to go big in order to find something that I wouldn't customize.

FoMoJo's answer would also work for me.

Really, there's nothing you would change on the Hooarya? Not even the name or the transmission?

(But really, I'm not trying to criticize every choice here. I was just poking fun that a fair few people didn't read the OP. Clearly, everyone has their own preferences. Shippy has his 57 Plymouth, which I wouldn't touch, but it's perfect to him, so that's cool.)

But there is no Boxster GT4 (not that I would take a Boxster over a Cayman anyways).

Heh, the PDK is a complete deal breaker for me. I wouldn't buy any 911 (not that I could) just because I don't like PDK and 7 speed MT seems weird.

FC or FD?  FC's were relatively reliable and durable.  It was the twin-turbo FDs that were a bit frail.

lol of course - what I meant was Mopar made the best finned cars (esp. motors) much cooler than the '57 Chevy that gets so much attention.
