I miss having a nice old car.

Picked it up and drove it home 22 miles through traffic. It overheated and the brakes are kinda iffy, but it made it! $500 worth of 51 year old truck. Some guy rolled down the window of his 2017 pathfinder and said "Never paint that truck dude!"

Eye of the Tiger

Never paint that truck. Maybe a matte cleatcoat, if anything. Also 7?572 swap, and congrats.

I'd repaint the interior but the exterior looks awesome

Oh yeah, do a complete restomod on the interior, chassis, engine, but leave the outside alone.

I love it. How is the wood in the bed?

My 66 is a C20 long bed fleetside with a white top over a lighter blue. Mine has a bit of rot on the front fenders and rocker panels. I really wish I had the time to restore it right now.

The bed wood is original- and rotten. These trucks all have rust in the lower front fenders because dirt accumulates in there and stays wet. This truck has some rust like that. Post a pic of your truck!

The old school solution was a product called Penetrol, which sealed the rust in and protected it, but didn't visually change anything. Eastwood now sells products specifically for automotive use that does the same.

A regular matte topcoat won't stick without a lot of prep.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Bodywork sucks. I only do it on my old man's military stuff, and he likes it when they still show a bit of dent.

I think I figured out why it's overheating- cranked it up last night and determined that after the thermostat opens, only the side tubes of the radiator get hot, the middle stays cool. Plugged. Hope to flush it, but if not, a new one costs $250 from Rockauto.
Also, an exhaust leak, plus the accelerator pump in the carb doesn't work, and about a thousand other little things. A little at a time, though.
I think I'm keeping that ammo box on the step, but the funky old thing in the bed has to go.

Don't screw around with flushing the radiator. Get it flowing again and all you'll find are leaks.

I can probably get you a discount on a radiator + electric fans. But it'll be more than $250.

Awesome buy! I agree with the others to preserve the body but don't paint it. Get rid of that horrible back bumper, and whatever that is in the box. Keep the ammo box on the step though. Invest in the mechanicals... get it running good, and freshen up the interior a bit.

Payman

I'd get rid of those huge wing mirrors too.

shp4man

I may need to replace the manual steering box. $250...

That's pretty much the plan.  :ohyeah:

Wing mirrors should stay. Find an old piece of railroad rail for the rear bumper.

That'd be one needlessly heavy bumper. :mask:

The weight of a bumper can serve a spacific porpoise.

Well, living where he lives, I highly doubt he'd need the weight for snow traction.  Otherwise...wheelies?
