Certified Audi S5

My brother in law bought a certified 2012 V8 Audi S5 with 40,000 miles on it.  Automatic.  He called me from the dealership right before he bought it asking what I thought.  100,000 mile/3 year warranty I think.  I said if you're prepared for what it costs, go for it.

That got me thinking...  If you're never going to track the car, is it worth it to get the S version versus an uplevel regular version?

The S is not a balls out performance car.  Even the RS5 isn't balls out.

I think in that specific case the V8 is worth it even if you don't track.

Who the fuck cares? Neither are most AMG cars, that isn't the point of any of them.

That's a great local brewery that we have. Do I drink their beer? No.

Yeah.  The older C and D review talked about how sweet sounding that engine is.  In a comparo, they called it a perfect daily driver.  They said the auto slushbox wasn't that great because no DSG for that model.

I'm glad he bought it.

Read the thread before you make stupid comments. Veeman asked if it's worth getting the S5 if you are never going to track the car. I'm saying that even if you get the RS5, it's not a car you take to the track.

That's interesting.  I was always under the impression M, S or RS, and AMG versions of BMW, Audi, and MB were designed to be able to handle track duty.  I know most people don't do that but most people don't go off-roading in their Jeeps either.

SVT666

The M and RS might be able to handle track duty, but I would say the newest versions of both are more suited for street use than the track.

Not that simple, although in pricing they are very similar. The "S" cars (S4 and S5) get a different Quattro system from the normal A4/A5 (40/60 power split instead of 50/50 F/R), get "S" specific seats, and the suspension itself is more aggressive. You also have the option to get things like a DSG transmission (only /M models have this) or the variable suspension/throttle settings.

The RS cars are really the equivalent of BMW's "M" line and MB's AMG line nowadays, but the S Cars are still a bit more specially than just an engine upgrade.

Over the base model car, yes.

Over another car - no.

... Nissan needs to use these shocks on the GT-R.  It would be like the Incredible Hulk wielding Thor's hammer.... unstoppable.
