I don't know what the 0-60 time is, but it can haul ass when I make it. The issue was more that I thought the V6 really struggled when accelerating down an on ramp or changing lanes into faster traffic. I would have been okay with a V6 4Runner (not nearly as fast as the V8 Explorer, but got the job done when it needed to) and the Xterra's V6 was actually pretty fun with the manual transmission (didn't drive any autos), but I drove a few different V6 Explorers and just knew that I'd be constantly disappointed by it if I bought one.

The transmission might be part of the issue too - the V8 has a 6-speed but the V6 has a 5.

To each his own though - if you don't mind a big ol' slow SUV, rock the fuck out.

Eh, I'm used to the slowness.

Just saying. Again. They're very reliable, very comfortable, real 4WD, and really good. Buy one.

Good luck finding one with under 90k miles for $12k. Also, don't they have the fancy air suspension that would be $$$ to fix if something goes wrong?

And white... If I'm going to take out a loan (goddammit), I'm getting a color I like, which is all of them except for white.

Jeez, you're picky.

The rear suspension if Lexus does it usually runs around $1,000 to do. It's not difficult.

Buy this:

Put a bunch of miles on it and sell it for more than you paid for it. No airbags, though.
Plus everbody tells you how cool your truck is and you can enter car shows.  :mrcool:

Good luck.

Had a line on a nice FJ62 last month; 250,000 miles and ten grand- and that was a damned bargain. Find a nice FJ40 and the seller is going to want serious new car level money for it.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Don't like them, too expensive, don't even want a luxury car like that, so I'll ignore your suggestion. Again. ;)

I might think about a first gen Tundra or an old mid-engine 4WD Toyota van (if I can find a really really nice one). Doubtful, but worth a check.

Yeah, any Toyota or Lexus SUV or truck (save maybe the Tundra - I dunno, I didn't look at them) are going to hold their value crazy well. Same with Wranglers, relative to their level of luxury, anyway. Especially for < 10 years old and < 100,000k miles, as much as I like both Wranglers and Toyota trucks/SUVs, I honestly don't think it's worth it to buy any of them (Wrangler or Toyota) used. They depreciate so slowly that I personally think it's worth it to just buy them used for the satisfaction of owning a brand new car.

I've thought about selling both the S2000 and Explorer and buying a brand new Wrangler, but my two cars combined wouldn't be much more than the bare minimum Wrangler that I'd want.

Dude. Kinda far away again, but 69k miles, V6, 4x4, not white. Nice looking vehicle.

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?endYear=2016&zip=83706&transmissionCode=AUT&maxPrice=12000&transmissionCodes=AUT&showcaseListingId=398508476&pricesOnly=true&driveGroup=AWD4WD&photosOnlyActual=true&startYear=2003&showcaseOwnerId=99862&maxMileage=100000&numRecords=100&searchRadius=200&listingId=406269692&Log=0

Also, This could be a decent choice, depending on when the transmission issues started for Pathfinders. It might actually be old enough that it's not affected. Decent gas mileage, almost definitely long enough to sleep in.

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?endYear=2016&zip=83706&transmissionCode=AUT&maxPrice=12000&transmissionCodes=AUT&showcaseListingId=398508476&pricesOnly=true&driveGroup=AWD4WD&photosOnlyActual=true&startYear=2003&showcaseOwnerId=99862&maxMileage=100000&numRecords=100&searchRadius=200&listingId=399196461&Log=0

Also, it's possible that I overreacted about the transmission stuff with the Nissans, if that scared you off. Honestly, I found my Explorer and it was by far the nicest one I'd seen in a couple months of AutoTrader browsing and test driving, so I bought it before I really had a chance to finish finding all the details about Nissan's transmission issues. Similarly, Grand Cherokees (though the Grand Cherokees seemed to be more commonly problematic, IIRC).

Those are all pretty far away... I want to sell my current Explorer first so I have all the money on hand, so it might be a few weeks. Need to fix it before I sell it.

Durangos are a no, Pathfinders are probably no. Aren't they pretty big? I don't think I can sleep in the back of an XTerra anyway.

Tundras are super expensive as expected, and I doubt there are very many of the 4wd vans even for sale.

Pathfinder is no bigger than the Explorer.  I think it's actually a shade (like an inch or so) smaller in some dimensions.

Synchros are cool, but rare and expensive here. Oh, and not real good offroad either.

What he needs is a Pinzgauer. Or, an M1078 (which might even fit into his budget)

I could do a Syncro, but I would actually prefer a 4WD Toyota van... Both are in the rare and expensive category, though.
