Not buying a bimmer or a Volvo, I don't want something bigger, probably not into the Pathfinder, definitely not buying something for another few weeks at least.

I'll try try to look at a Pathfinder at least.

Would look at home beside the 944. Hey it meets the differential lock, and low range requirements.

I could do a Syncro, but I would actually prefer a 4WD Toyota van... Both are in the rare and expensive category, though.

Only in some parts of the world.....  :mrcool:

Those BMW's are awful.

The 4WD system is not the same grade as what Rupert needs, and the V8 is garbage. The only reliable motor in those cars is the 3.0 I6.

The Volvo is a joke off road.

The Two asian cars are about right.

The Pathfinder is about the same size as the Explorer, maybe a little smaller.

Pathfinder is almost the exact same size as the '02-'05 Explorer and slightly smaller than the '06+

If they are broken down he can then go to the bar and plonk two Porsche keys down on the bar. Plus each Porsche can have a "my other car is a Porsche" sticker.

How about a good old Postal Jeep with a Porsche 911 engine. :hammerhead:

This is a good project jeep. Has the doors that will slide off. There has been a lot of work to this unit and there is still a lot to make it perfect. Has a amc motor of sorts. Its a combination of amc, Volkswagen and Audi. This motor was put in Porsche 911 at one time. I was told it has a Chrysler transmission. The motor runs good but the carb needs some adjusting. Bottom line is this is a pretty decent unit for the age but the restoration is not complete. I bought 2 for my daughter and she chose the other one. If you email put mail bag in the subject line or call the number in the add. I will not respond if that is not in the subject line. Sorry too much spam.

Yeah, I thought they were huge until MX said something. Pretty ugly and they all seem to be silver, though. I should look at one and see what I think.

AMC bought 2.0 L engines from Audi in the late 1970s, and bought automatic transmissions from Chrysler, hence the DJ-5 had an Audi engine backed by a 3-speed TorqueFlite.

I think they dropped "Pathfinder" from the name after the first couple of years.  Not sure why they had Pathfinder in the name in the first place.  Seems to be a Japanese thing.  Like the Outlander and Outlander Sport, which are unrelated vehicles.  Or Outback and Outback Sport.  Landcruiser and Landcruiser Prado...

It's just trying to give a new model the positive association with a better-known one.

Bronco Sport was a trim package for the Bronco, not a completely different vehicle with little to no commonality with its stablemate.  I'll give you the Cherokee.

I remember early Nissan Altimas having tiny Stanza badges on them.  Seems to be a Nissan thing where they're uncomfortable launching a new name without keeping the old around for a little while.  Sort of like how for a couple of years in the early '80s, their cars were badged Datsun such-and-such, by Nissan.

Altima replaced the Stanza (it was the next subsequent generation).  I can kind of understand wanting to carry on the name to try to maintain some continuity with consumers.  They never sold the Stanza Altima and Stanza side-by-side.  Armada did not replace the Pathfinder.  It was its own model positioned a size-class above the Pathfinder.

The Datsun brand name stemmed from Nissan's fear of failure in the US and fear the "Nissan" would be associated with the Japanese war machine from WWII when they built equipment for the Japanese military.  When it became apparent that buyers were receptive to the cars, Nissan gradually phased out the Datsun brand name and changed over to Nissan.
