Well, there's the Viggen:

But there are plenty of good reasons to like that.  Fast as balls in the midrange, and with some minor mods (aka Viggen Rescue Kit), it could be turned it a good all round performer and be pretty reliable too (the kit fixes the issues with stuffing a too-big motor in a too-small bay).

What there may or may not be a good reason for liking is the 250hp V6 turbo 9-3 Cabriolet that came later.

Maybe not good reasons, but it was quick, comfortable, and looked great.  I wanted one then, I still want one now.  I could see a three car garage where I have a Z4M Roadster, an SUV of some sort, and a 9-3 2.8t cabriolet for long haul top down driving.  6MT, of course.  And one before it got the deep, company-killing nose.

I learned how to drive manual on one of those (a 2.0T sedan). That thing was a lot of fun to drive- I have a soft spot for pre-facelift 9-3s.

Same here.  I drove a manual 9-3 Arc 2.0T (just below the Aero) while I was still learning how to drive stick.  I was awful, but once I got going, I really enjoyed how that car drove.

I totally forgot about the Viggen.   I was so close to buying one years and years ago.

IDK man, every Saab I've driven I always walk away thinking "Man, an Audi beats the brakes off this"

Viggens were cool. Two door versions especially. Oddly roomy and practical, looked different than everything else, kind of laggy but fun when the boost hit.

It was just a really quirky, fun, m3 competitor.

I'll take that one if it has a 300 I6 and a granny gear 4 speed. Maybe put a turbo on it.

If I ever have a need to routinely cut and haul firewood from the forest, I'm getting one of those.

That seems like a good reason to drive a 4x4 truck.

But it's not my reason, because I don't have to cut or haul firewood.

How do you keep warm in winter and cook perpetual stew?

I remember test driving a 9-3 before I bought my GTI. I liked it a lot but in the end I liked the GTI better (and it was cheaper). All things being considered I think they were nice cars but suffered from being FWD.
