I didn't realize this was on sale still.

I think it's hilarious that pretty much every competitor has been through two model cycles, and no doubt are gearing up for a third, and Mitsubshi is still selling us this boring and basic Lancer, thats pretty much the same from 2007.

Wow, that is boring. Why is Mitsubishi still in the US?

Shockingly, the Mirage is doing like three times their sales expectations.

2o6

The Mirage could be fixed

It just needs to not look so old, and they need to fix the handling.

And give it a manual transmission that doesn't feel like it's going to break if you shift it with any sort of verve

One good thing about the Lancer is they're now dirt cheap. I can go buy a 2015 model (which you have to admit is still a good looking car) with an excellent warranty for $13,999 at the local dealership.

I guess. I can also get a manual Kia Soul for $12,500. And I can have my pick of the litter of Hyundai Elantras for about that price too.

Here's a press release posted this morning with their YTD and YOY sales figures. I don't understand how total sales can be up +25% with such a mediocre line-up.

Heavy rebates and incentives. Why pay $18,000 for a Honda Fit, when you can get a bigger Lancer for some $3-4000 less? Same reason the Cavalier/Sunfire kept selling... lots of car for the $$$.

The Mirage legitimately gets like 50MPG and is dirt cheap.

The Outlander Sport is cheap and offers AWD and isn't horrible in upper trims

The rest is garbage

U guys are looking at this from the wrong POV

Mitsu can get people into cars for much lower monthly payments than the competition thanks to them being new and obscenely discounted

People who buy Mitsubishis are not cross shopping them with brand new Hondas..... they are most likely coming in upside down on loans and at their wits end. In that context I see Mitsubishi getting stronger in the US market. An 8 year old car is not that old and when your car equity is fucked and you have a perpetual car payment might as well get the newest car you can for the money.

Hyundai also has easy credit.

The current Lancer was pretty decent when it first came out.  Definitely in the upper half of the segment.  Even if it's old, it's still not a bad car.  Surprised they didn't at least attempt a facelift to try to keep it looking somewhat fresh.

Sales increased 25 percent from negligible to slightly-less-negligible.

The new Lancer is pretty sweet... just wish there was more waggin, and more Rallye Spirt.

The Outlander isn't awful to drive and is roomy for the price. The Outlander Sport has nothing going for it -- it used to be the smaller, more fuel-efficient alternative to a CR-V before the subcompact class exploded and the CR-V's mileage improved.

Its pretty easy to post huge increases when you're stating from almost nothing.

That would do about as much for Mitsubishi as bringing back the EVO.........................................

A lady I know wanted a new car. She has little money & got a deal on a Mirage. It has all the gadgetry, & interfaces with her smartphone. She loves it.
Personally I would have bought a used Toyota or Honda but... she wanted a new car. It's the first new car she's ever owned.

As a genuinely cheap car that gets a genuine 40 MPG, it is only a bonus that it has reasonable standard features and an excellent warranty. They are currently offering $1250 cash back on a $12,995 car, which has got to kill their profit.

- even in base trim, it actually is fairly well equipped

- automatic versions will crest 50MPG

It'll feel like dogs shit every step of the way, but oh well
