I don't like the looks of BMW coupes, the 1 series(now 2 over here) would have been more appealing(to me) as a 2 or 4 door hatchback or a 4 door sedan.

A rwd 4 door aka "2 series gran coupe" is supposedly coming soon. Maybe not in M flavor though.

Nah, the 2 series is my favourite BMW. I still have a thing for 2 door coupes.

Yeah. I recently configured a MINI John Cooper Works Paceman at $53,000. Insane. The M2 is cool though because it's essentially an M3 from its greatest generation, at an M3 MSRP from 10-12 years ago.

This M2 is nice. But I see nothing that makes it a worthwhile upgrade over the 1M. 30 more hp (which are a very conservative tune away for the 1M anyway).

Suspension geometry, weight, brakes, diff, all basically the same that I've got. And the 1M is limited production so it doesn't make any sense to get this for me.

What did your 1M cost in US$ (if you don't mind me asking)?

I'd prefer just a regular old sedan, I'm sure some of the older guys remember them.

None of this gran coupe active tourer BS they seem to want to push.

But the E90 M3 sedan started at like $53k...

55K IIRC

This will easily outperform a stock E90 M3. And pricing should be compared to the current M3, not to one that came out in '07. Again, inflation man.

They're cheaper when you don't trade them in every 3 mos.

But yeah, it's a BMW M which has never been cheap. A 335i can easily be configured to ~$60k+, the base price listed here seems about what should be expected IMO.

He said price is in line with M3's from 10-12 years ago. My point was that the E90 was fairly recent and not that expensive.

Torque my friend. And it's not just a little lighter.... it's over 400lb lighter.

Still in all.... I feel like an M235i with the LSD is a better value. It's just damn good. And you know me. I wouldn't even need 1/2 of the extra $10K to build a bruiser. Funny that they dialed the power back so much though. I am guessing they are using a single turbo rather than the M3's twins. Would make a ton of sense.

Valiant effort though. <3300lb turbo 6 banger 4 seater. We haven't seen that combo.... since the 80s?

400 lbs is like 12%.  It's got 20% less power, at least at peak.  We'll have to see what the overall power curve looks like.

The N/A engines were not underrated. All BMW turbos are, they tend to make at the wheels their rated crank power. My 1M keeps up with the E90 M3 - at sea level. And it has 30 less hp than this M2. At altitude, the 1M walks the M3.

At altitude, I have no doubt the turbocharged car will walk the E90.  Not so sure at sea level.  Looking at C&D's Lightning Lap, the 1M was a full second slower than the E9x M3.  Straight line testing likewise showed the M3 as having an edge over the 1M.  If it exceeds the M3, and it may, I don't think it will be by that much.

I agree. I have taken the 1M to COTA in Austin (sea level basically) and kept up with M3s there. A 1 sec difference on a 3 minute track is very very small. Any driver difference is much greater than that. Even the level of tire wear can compensate for such a small difference. Point is, they´re basically equivalent. With the M2 add some power and better tires (the 1M and E90 had PS2s, the M2 PSSs) and it will surely be faster than the E90.

Pfft $20k more and barely any more hp than a Ficus RS.

JK, this thing looks badass. Plus Ford dealers will probably gouge the fuck out of the RS and you'll end up spending $55k to get one.
