As awesome as this would be, I don't think it'll ever happen... not because Yammy doesn't have the knowhow or budget, but trying to meet regs will make it a non-starter, IMHO.

lol it's way too complicated to build a car from scratch, doubt it would be any good.

Au contraire. Yamaha is no stranger to the auto industry, and is quite capable of building a great sportscar if it could do so meeting the strict regulations.

Govt needs to come up off these stupid ass kit car laws.

I would love an R1 powered open wheel car. I'd replace my bike with one in a heartbeat.

I don't know what this is gonna be though and if it's built to regs it's probably going to suck.

They'll probably just tape two motorcycles together and put a couple of keyboards in as bench seats.

Yamaha made legit cars. They even came with handles.

Yeah.  They made three of those.  Prototypes. And it was $800,000 in 1990-whatever money.

Looks like something out of Knight Rider 3000.

Oh hell. They need to build this.   1653 lbs! With tech from Gordon Murray. This thing would be epic with a bike powerplant.

CF.... whoo boy. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I wish manufacturers would start making sports cars for 99% again. Even the Miata is semi out of reach.

"...it makes use of Gordon Murray's iStream Carbon chassis technology—a super-affordable way to make carbon fiber chassis at high volumes for mass production."

I guess we shall see. I mean, either way it's gonna be out of reach for the average consumer, but it'll be interesting to see pricing.

How is it semi out of reach? A base 1990 Miata started at $13,800, which is ~$25k today. A base ND also starts at $25k.

With any kind of equipment it's up in the $30K range. Maybe it was never a bargain to buy new.

The original NA came with less equipment, fully loaded, than a base ND.

Eh, only equipment needed is the LSD, but I guess that pushes you near $30k. Still, a loaded NA went for ~$18k new in 1990 so it's still in line with prices from back then and as MX said, you get a lot more standard equipment in the ND.
