Oh yes, and WTF were they thinking with the SC?

Awful, but at least the new LC500 is looking (or trying) to turn things around.

I prefer the original NA Miata to the NB.

The Honda Civic when it went to the 100 yard dash (board) w/ split.

Chevy Uplander

Z3 ->Z4

the last iteration of the NA only Focus around 2008, dear god.

The 2008 Focus was an abomination.

Yes. Americans love fake chrome and trunks.

To be fair, the 2008 Focus wasn't offensively bad as a 2008 Cobalt

Or the '08 Caliber.

There's another good one. The Neon was decent, the Caliber was awful.

Not sure I'd call the Neon "decent" (it drove well, but it was a POS in terms of most other metrics), but the Caliber certainly made it seem pretty decent.

More like "Americans like their small cars cheap".  The US-only facelifted Focus was much cheaper than the newer Euro Focus.

And indeed, when Ford caved in and brought over the European Focus in the future, Americans continued to demand the same big discounts that led Ford to cut costs on the 2008 in the first place. (Though it does also seem that the Focus we missed might have been the best generation of all; the current model has a lot of flaws.)

It went from being pleasant to peasant.

I like the Versa Note. It's feels better-sorted than the sedan and even picked up some agility that the old model never had.

Besides, I can see why Nissan made the interior cheaper -- make it too good and it's undercutting the Sentra, and as sales volume indicated, the market is quite satisfied with lots of room, great mileage, and a low price.

Lexus LS. The LS400 put Lexus on the map, and the LS430 was pretty good too. However, the LS460 was a turd from the get-go, and then left to languishing for 10 years.

Never understood why Toyota did that. The LS used to be the go-to proposition for buyers wanting luxury, value & reliability: the left brain rational decision. Toyota walked away from them.

Honda CR-Z.

Eh kinda, but the CR-Z didn't damage the CRX. The Del Sol is a much better example.

New Chrysler Pacifica.

Why? The old Pacifica was a turd, and the new Pacifica looks better than the vans its replacing (unless there are new reviews out that I haven't seen that say otherwise).

Way to take a great sports car and one of BMW's best modern designs and turn it into a soft looking and soft driving hard top boulevardier.  I bet it was a sales success because it's so soft and stupid, but the E85/E86 were awesome cars and the E89 just ruined it.

You nailed it with the first part of your sentence. People associate the name with that turd, not realizing it's the Caravan/TC replacement. It does look good, but Chrysler fucked up calling it "Pacifica".

I rib you with this all the time, and it's a good car... I wouldn't turn down an E85/86, but IMHO the E89 looks soooooo much better, and corrected what I see as design flaws with the E85/86.

You cray cray.

The name. Instead of continuing on with the Caravan/T&C name, which has massive equity with consumers, they used a name from an unpopular model.

2o6

I'd agree that the name destroys all equity in a segment that runs on it.

M'kay, they didn't ruin it, but I still think they made a huge mistake with the choice of name. I actually read comments where people are asking why Chrysler is bringing back "that turd". They don't realize it's the Caravan/TC replacement.

I agree that the name is stupid in that they're throwing away a lot of brand recognition in favor of a badge that was previously affixed to a turd, but in terms of the vehicle itself, it seems to be an improvement over the outgoing van, which is what your thread was asking, right?

I agree. I loved the old Z4. I remember the first time I saw one in middle school. That thing was so sexy. Now I don't think they look so good and the hardtop only is a disappointment.
