Clocked 13 hours today. Back to back to back brake jobs, alignments, diags, diags, diags.
You get paid for all 13 hours?

That is 13 hours of labor in an 8 hour day.

Good old flat rate. Actually sometimes it's a pain in the ass.

Nope. Almost all auto techs are on flat rate.

That would be salary. But damn, how boring that would be.

Ask me how many alignments I did today, and I'll say I lost count after 6.

Looking at removing a cheapish alarm system from the wife's car that was installed before she got it.  It was spliced into the ignition wire and power wire, and I haven't messed with wires before.  Can I just clip the wire at the "T" splice and wrap it with electrical tape... or?  I tried youtubing it but couldn't find anything for removing a splice.  How can I do it properly?

The cheap ass crimp on splices they use?

Don't remove them. You'll end up damaging the OEM wires even more. Just cut the installed wire off at the base of the connector.

Just cut it off at where the purple line is or should I get closer into the splice?  Wrap it with electrical tape after right?

Thanks!

Yeah. thats what I would do.

I hate those splices and I hate how it looks when you leave them; but taking them off causes more problems.

Once you get the aftermarket wires out of the way, I just put the OEM wires back together.

I agree with cutting the aftermarket wire and leaving the rest. Electrical tape is good, unless you want to live life on the edge like I do.

Or if you feel like doing western union splices upside down with your head stuffed under your dash and solder dripping into your eye.

Ah, I'm too much of a perfectionist with my wiring.  I don't like crimps or electrical tape at all if I can avoid it.  Solder and shrink tubing for life.

Weather tight crimps are preferred for applications subject to movement or vibration. Solder may crack over time.

I would bend each wire back on itself and wrap it around.

Twist the wires together and wrap with electric tape. Or, if you're feeling fancyz use a wire nut.

And that is for solid wire, not stranded.

For stranded wires, you do basically the same thing.

And I have done it many times, but I'll always prefer good quality butt connectors and proper crimping pliers.
