Service at BMW dealerships is too expensive for a car in this price range. 

If this car is a Mini Cooper underneath with a different body and 3,000 dollar price hike, I don't think it will be successful in the U.S. or Canada.

Yeah, it would totally be successful. I can see a great deal of 128xi's running around for the lease price of $349 per month.


And Mini Service isn't cheap.

AFAIK the US doesn't get the FWD X1. And I'm pretty sure most X1 buyers in the US will be in for a surprise when they pop the hood and see that their engine is transversely mounted!

We don't but in my area, when I worked at the BMW dealer, most of our BMW's were X-drive models, including the sedans and coupes. I drove a lot of 428xi's in particular.


Also, we don't get the S-drive RWD X3 or X5, and I only saw maybe two or three S drive old X1's.

SUV or SUV styling (X1) is popular.  I guess it doesn't much matter though because whatever they sell will be profitable.
