Quoteiat Chrysler Automobiles said today it plans to bring back the Dodge Demon, a muscle car from the 1970s, with an engine that kicks out even more horsepower than the Charger and Challenger Hellcat models.

The automaker said it will reveal the Dodge Challenger Demon SRT at the New York International Auto Show.

FCA's decision to launch an ultra-powerful Demon comes at a time when most automakers are talking about self-driving cars and electric cars and illustrates how the Auburn Hills automaker, especially with its Dodge brand, is not afraid to sell screaming power.

"Most cars attempt to be everything to everybody. Then there are the rare few that revel in a single objective, rendering them totally irresistible to a subculture," said Tim Kuniskis, FCA's head of passenger car brands. "The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is conceived, designed and engineered for a subculture of enthusiasts who know that a tenth is a car and a half second is your reputation."

So are they adding even more power to a chassis that already can't handle the current power?

Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

I'm gonna guess this is some sort of super limited edition COPO-type vehicle and maybe not even street legal, akin to the recent drag-prepped versions of the Camaro and Mustang.

Don't worry, they'll temper the extra power by making it another 800 lbs heavier.

It's like FCA has just accepted that they can't compete with GM, Ford, Honda/Toyota in the grind of actually making good all around cars and are just going to dump a Hellcat, and now Demon, powered bomb in each of their vehicles.

To be fair, this has been the Mopar tactic since the late '60s.

Is it? LX platform sales have been in freefall and Hellcats aren't exactly volume movers...

Well, you've already got this Hellcat thing, which has ridiculous amounts of power and is too expensive for me ( and I couldn't even buy one if I had the money), so what is this Demon supposed to do for me?

There's a game going on to guess what the cryptic license plate means. My guess is $2576 for a new set of tires every 35 miles.

12,000 RPM

Financing deal. Gonna cost 92K, which is way too much for a Dodge as the Viper has demonstrated.
