SpaceX is kicking JAL's monopolist ass up and down the block and Musk was heavily involved in that effort.

Nah, same as Tesla, SpaceX is money loser courtesy of chasing "cool" stuff that has dubious commercial viability (reusable/rebuildable rockets). SpaceX is now selling its soul for military business (which will delay its inevitable collapse).

Not sure if serious, but that would be akin to being afraid of flying because you might crash.

I was going to mention him in the chat thread.  Don't know how well-known/popular he was with you guys, but we really liked him up here.  RIP.

Apparently it was there at the event? So they built a one off it looks like. I think it's really, really strange and shady they will quickly post pricing and reservation price, but no timeline at all. Even if they can't hit a timeline to save their lives, you would think they'd still at least try and predict.

Anyone who pays $50k for a reservation now is beyond stupid.

Is that legal????

I hope an actual car company flush with cash is sitting, waiting for the stock to drop to take Tesla out of Elon's misery. 0-60 times for a big rig? That is some Jalopnik teenager shit :wtf:

The truck is something clearly designed by people who have very little exposure to trucking in any capacity; although if the end intent is to remove the trucker from the truck, that may not be a bad thing.

As a truck that needs a driver, this is a pretty big failure.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Could have easily been a rolling styling buck.

(A lot of model 3 "prototypes" were styling bucks that rolled.) in

I saw a Model 3 at Google HQ yesterday. The tablet dash is inexcusable, but it's a pretty good looking car otherwise. A lot more premium-looking than the Bolt and Prius for sure.

Every time I get stuck behind a fully loaded rig on an on-ramp for a busy highway, I wish they had better 0-60 times.

Also, this truck weighs an estimated ~10,000 lbs heavier than it's traditional counterpart.

It won't be able to haul as much as regular trucks, by default.

Roads have load limits (both per axle and total).  The heavier your rig, the less cargo you're permitted to carry.

Niether a focus or F350 are near the legal limit on total weight, so it doesn't matter.

Big rigs can (and do) reach that total legal limit (80k lbs IIRC), so if the truck itself is 10k lbs heavier on average it would have to reduce that with lighter loads overall.

TBH I am not sure what a typical rig weighs. As a general rule of thumb we do not put more than 35k lbs on any single trailer.

If they (and all slower moving traffic) just got to the right, we'd solve a lot of problems. American drivers have a lane entitlement problem.

I'm not talking about truckers camping the left lane at exactly the speed limit or 5 under.  I'm talking about trying to merge onto a highway when the vehicle in front of me on the ramp is a big rig struggling to get to 45 mph before the end of the ramp on a 70 mph highway, and myself similarly being held to <45 mph while trying to merge with traffic going near double my speed.

That is a shit situation, but you have 400+ HP  Just find your gap, drop to the right gear and mash out.  I will say that in NYC onramps were frighteningly short at times.
