La Trucka (feminine) , El Carro (masculine) ...  :wtf:

More like we want the truck to reflect our own self image, while the sports car is more often an emblem of the that which we desire.
Quote from: giant_mtb on May 01, 2017, 02:21:33 PM
I think that's the essence of the "argument" here.  It's one thing to lust for a sexy car (Pininfarina), but it's another to want a tough, manly-styled vehicle (like an SUV).  Depends on the application.  I don't want my truck to be sexy, and I don't want my sports car to be boxy and manly.
That doesn't exactly explain why my wife always wanted to get a Hummer H2...

...and I hate how they look.

Nothing could ever explain why anyone would ever want a Hummer H2.

A vehicle appearing "masculine" doesn't mean it appeals primarily to men.  It just means it gives off a tough,  powerful, broad-shouldered, imposing visual impression.  I suspect there are many women that prefer their truck/SUV look tough and rugged as opposed to soft and unimposing.  Most crossovers today don't have the tough, utilitarian visage of a traditional truck.  They have the softer, more rounded shape of a car.  They look like hatchbacks or station wagons swollen by an allergic reaction.

Anyways, other than the Edge, which is kind of boxy, but has a lot of desirable features, especially the Sport model with the 2.7 L EcoBoost engine (315 Horsepower And 350 lb.-ft. Of Torque), I can strongly recommend the Land Rover Discovery Sport HSE.  It may be a little more expensive than some of the other choices, but comes with some rather nice features.  As well, I find the appearance quite pleasing, rather a good blend of attractiveness with a slight touch of manliness and just a hint of elegance.

Obviously my explanation was incredibly simplistic, but the general archetypes remain. There is a gender-conscous image to alot of design, and for various reasons.

That we are attracted to certain designs over others is clear; and often times that's because of the images we associate with certain qualities.

It need not be as simple or as crass as what looks "gay" or what vehicles lead to tiny penis jokes, but at some level it is about image.

What does your wife think of these ratty rods, and is this related to her desire for a hummer?

Yeah I know I shouldn't, I feel guilty. But most mainstream 2-row SUVs are at, or close to, mom-mobiles image-wise. I am not self-conscious driving my wife's car -  comfortable with that, maybe because it is so far-out frivolous - and the G37 is hirstute-nutsack.

But I need a reasonably-priced common sense 2-row SUV. I need a mom-mobile. Try loading 20 bags of mulch in the back of a G37.
