I didn't know you had a manual transmission.  I'd love a new Outback with a manual tranny but alas... My Crosstrek has a 5 speed just like yours.  The one complaint I have about my Crosstrek is that the engine RPM is too high around 70-80 mph.  At 80 mph, it's around 3500 RPM which makes the car a bit noisy.  It's not horrible but I wish it was geared a bit taller (although that would probably hurt acceleration) or it was a 6 speed (which would have solved everything). What RPM are you at 80 MPH?

Well played.

The previous owner was an idiot and rolled the fenders, which would have been fine if he had used a heat gun to warm up the paint first. Since he didn't all the paint cracked off, exposing all the metal underneath, which started rusting slightly. Since this car will see snow, I painted all the fender arches with a rust inhibitor and then hit it with color matched spray paint. It looks pretty bad, but anything looks better than rust. It's not like the rest of the car body is in great condition anyways.

Bolts right up.  Uses stock engine mounts, flywheel, clutch, and tranny.

God dammit. I bent a bushing bracket on the transmission crossmember by trying to be lazy and skip steps.

Now the car has to sit on jack stands with the jack holding up the transmission while I wait till tomorrow to get another bracket from the dealership. FML.

Transmission bushings are installed! Both dealerships near me didn't have the brackets in stock, which is surprising given that same bracket has been used on manual transmission Subarus for the past 20 years. I ended up going to the junkyard again and pulled one off an Outback there. Came back and got everything bolted back up, thankfully. I still haven't driven the car yet but hopefully it still works.

Mine was bent all the way into the bumper but I figured I'd probably get pulled over for not being visible. It is pretty ugly though.
