2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S Named Motor Trend's 2019 Best Driver's Car

Motor Trend has named the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S as 2019's Best Driver's car, making it the fifth Porsche to win the award since 2007.

The U.S. publication gathered 12 of the market's finest performance vehicles for testing. These included the Porsche 911 Carrera S, Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, Bentley Continental GT V8, BMW M2 Competition, BMW M850i xDrive, Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, Ford Mustang Shelby GT350, Jaguar XE SV Project 8, Lamborghini Urus, McLaren Senna, Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4Matic+, and the Toyota GR Supra.

These vehicles "endured a battery of tests" at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California before being driven along some of California's finest coastal roads and across a closed-off section of State Route 198 near Kings Canyon National Park and Sequoia National Park. All 12 cars were then taken to their absolute limits by racing driver Randy Pobst at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

Motor Trend's 2020 911 Carrera S came adorned with the available Sport package, Sport Chrono package, PASM sport suspension, rear-axle steering, and PCCB carbon-ceramic brakes. Motor Trend praised the car for its breadth of abilities. On a track, the car is also supremely fast and was only bested by the McLaren Senna at Laguna Seca.

"The Porsche 911 Carrera S 992 is our Best Driver's Car because no other car on the road offers such levels of performance in such a driver-friendly package," Motor Trend executive editor Mark Rechtin said. "The Porsche's singular focus on the driving experience is a potent combination of control, responsiveness, and pure speed. There is a precision to the Porsche's acceleration, braking, and handling that no other car could match."

Getting a chance to drive this car was amazing.  It's dynamically perfect.  It's roadmanners are fantastic.  Ergonomics are fantastic.  Exhaust noises are great.

The new digital gauges are shit though.

Not at all surprised.

But why was the Urus there? Or the Continental GT?

They are vehicles designed to be driven fast

The Urus and the Continental GT?

No, they are not.  They are fast, but they were designed to be driven slowly.  It's clear that an SUV and a 5,000 pound pig would never have a chance against real sports and GT cars.

I think having them there is a relevant data point on how good you can make an SUV or lux gt

I guess that's a fair point.

The Urus kicked ass at C&D's Lightning Lap. It beat a lot of vehicles meant to be driven fast
