We've heard of Waymo and Cruise. Tesla is alleged to have one in the works. But have you heard of Zoox?

Zoox is now operational at some level; people are seeing them humming around San Francisco. (Morris Jr had a hand in the development of those things.)
Waymos are commonplace, now running on freeways, I wonder if they're working on a Mk II (i.e. non-I-Pace) that tidies up the sensor protuberances.)
I've seen videos of the Cybercab being tested at the Austin factory - so I'm guessing they'll be around soon too.

I will gladly place a friendly wager that we will not see any Tesla robotaxis anytime soon

Is Morris Jr still at Zoox?  Glad to see someone pushing Waymo here.  Are they using their own little box vehicles for testing?  It's cool they have something optimized for the function.

Haha - I need to think about this. Super impressed with the new user videos of the FSD trained on the new clusters, but balancing that w/ ElonOptimism time distortion phenomenon.

Morris Jr moved on from Zoox & is now at a startup in Mountain View doing ADAS & autonomous systems for legacy auto. They've signed up a few big fish so hopefully he can feed the family for a while.

Hope you're well & recovering from the crunch in the truck. (I think it took me a couple of weeks to stop reliving smashing the Mazda.)

I think we're in different YouTube algorithm bubbles. The FSD dashcam videos that I see scare the shit out of me. A number of people I know have Teslas and have flirted with FSD at some point, only to experience it doing something crazy and then they swear it off forever. Continued uptake among them is about 1 out of 9.

There are others out there but I've mostly followed this guy - a nerdy United Airlines pilot, who was so harsh about the way it behaved on an unprotected left turn near his home that his name started appearing in FSD release notes.

I can totally tell.  All the stuff Morris posts about Tesla are the exact people my feed makes fun

Had two Waymo rides last night in Austin. My daughter had signed up weeks ago as a pilot user and got the invite yesterday.

It was flawless and low stress. People standing outside the hotel were gaping as it pulled into the drop off area and we got out.

The rides were free. Uber will be handing it all when they go live.

Really got me thinking about where this will all go.
