I'm surprised Mitsubishi continues to exist selling passenger cars in the U.S. and didn't leave like Suzuki and Isuzu did.

A friend of mine in the early 1990s had a Mitsubishi Galant and then when he got rid of it after a few years, got another one.  It had this interesting asymmetric driver's side bump on its engine hood.

It's not dead. I bought one, and my credit score is over 700.

On the Eclipse, that bump was to clear the giant DOHC sprockets.

I don't want you to hijack that lame Miata thread, so I'm hijacking this thread.

ECO mode on the Mirage turns the I3 into a Buell Blast.

It actually reverses the fuel injectors and refills the tank.

Sounds dangerous. I guess that's why it tops the fatality list.

Mirage has Mitsubishi's proprietary RISE (Reincarnatedhopefullyafter Involuntary Slaughter Extermination) body construction. It only tops the fatality list because the RAM RAM tops best selling list.

Mirage rides like a dream with 300 pounds of wood pellets and groceries trunk, but then understeers terribly on wet roads when trying not to die to red light runners.

#13
Mirage is getting LED fog lamps. Mitsubishi is so cheap generous that the switch and wiring is already in place. I just need to pop out the blanks, screw in the lamps, add a 4-pin n/o microrelay to the junction box, and activate it with a scanner (or opening the door five times and some nonsense). I ordered whitelamps instead of amberlamps. I don't want Mirage to have any distinctive characteristics in this crime-ridden, urban hellhole.

One strange thing about this car is how quickly the front tires wear (must be all the hp). I did the second oil change at 10,600 miles, and they were over halfway gone. I decided to rotate for now, but I'm thinking another 10K at most before I'll need new tires.
I'm looking to upgrade from 165/65R14 to the stock NA Miata tire size, 185/60R14.

Mirage is well cared for. I spent less on my Miata's Continentals!

Yeah, I don't think Mirage will actually get Proxes R888R. They are DOT competition tires.

Mirage needs AWD. It just can't put down all that power.

In theory, Mirage is a good candidate for a nitrous booost. The engine is simple and robust, but the tranny can only handle short bursts of power before it needs to cool off.

I dislike that 0-60 in 10.6 seconds is now considered unacceptably slow. Most people can't handle anything that accelerates faster.

There are two minor things that I want for this car, and neither one is more power:

1. Heated seat
2. A button to lock the transmission ratio wherever it is

Sub 10-second cars should require an endorsement on your license.

Sub 6-second cars should require a different class of license entirely.  Same for anything larger than a mid-size truck.

I'd be fine with the Japanese system. Mirage is already a class above a Kei.

I remember the days (1960s & early 70s) as a kid in the UK when 0-60 in 10 sec was pretty respectable. It's amazing how hard they worked at making engines as woeful as possible.

If you watch reviews of the Mirage, 90% of them claim that it is so slow that it is dangerous. It is far from the slowest vehicle I've ever had. People just don't know how to drive.

My 1990 Camry was dangerous until you pushed the button to put the ECT into POWER mode. The car morphed, Transformers-style, into a Camry Sport. Watch out, Ferrari!

POWER mode is no joke. Mirage has "S" mode, which I guess is Similar.
