From what I can tell it just delayed the shift into fourth gear. So... basically a turbocharger?

The ECT PWR button lives on, my Taco has it.

No, it just holds gears longer. Basically what any tow/haul mode on a truck or "sport" mode on a car does with an automatic transmission.

My elderly G37 has that Sport mode where you slot the shifter to the left when in Drive. It drops a gear, revs go up and gets all excited, "Wanna play?"  It's fun.
