My phone still lasts all day.

If I want to go somewhere, GPS is already on. Makes sense to have a nicer UI as well as traffic warnings.

I've never used GPS.  I typically just look at a map before I leave, memorize the route, and go.  Maybe jot a few notes if it's an especially long trip with lots of turns to remember.

Same.

I drive a lot of my area picking up customer vehicles and I have a really good sense of direction.  It's invaluable.

I'll use GPS when out of town, but I'm pretty good at just remembering exots and such to get to where I need to be.

What is the status of your license, Cale?  Still suspended, or did you ever resolve all your outstanding tickets?

I should check that

Worst they'll do is just ticket you for driving with a suspended license.

His driving record is so fucked up that he's past the point where any of this matters.  Eventually he may get locked up though.

In NY?  Only if he gets hit with a DWI.  A few years ago, a co-worker was riding his motorcycle to work and was struck and killed by another driver.  The other driver did not have a license.  It had been suspended several years earlier for failure to pay a ticket.  In that time, they had been stopped and ticketed at least half a dozen times for unlicensed operation and whatever offense prompted them to get pulled over in the first place (speeding, failure to signal, whatever).  They didn't respond to those tickets either.  At the scene of the fatal accident, the cops issued this person a failure to yield ticket and an unlicensed operation ticket and sent them on their way.

Fair enough, but when you grow up in and live in the same place...needing a GPS to get around is pretty unnecessary.  You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone here using their GPS on their commute.  God forbid, 10 years ago, only old people and truck drivers had Garmins...everybody else figured it out just fine.

Obviously for a commute you don't need it. You can just leave it running without entering in your address to see if there are any accidents or cops up ahead.

Also, I always plan out the route on Google maps because it accounts for traffic and gives you a good idea of when you should leave to make it to your destination on time. That was very handy for my interviews, even though I knew where I was going anyways. I do this for places I go to regularly as well to make sure I show up on time.

That's the thing...around here, there's no real traffic and accidents don't typically create huge bottlenecks.  Only congestion we get is because of construction, and that's pretty predictable once you know where it is.

Did the cop know you worked as a prosecutor when he pulled you over?   Did he recognize you or did you have to tell him?
he recognized me before he got to the door.  was funny seeing him get out of the car all serious with his cop demeanor then drop it 3/4 the way to my car.

Waze is great for more than cops. It's let me know of debris in the road a couple of times on the trip from SC to NY. Worth it just to avoid a flat. Let alone a ticket

I use it all the time just so I know what's coming up in the road. And to let others know what's coming. It's nice to know there are so many others that take pride in driving.

With this kind of thinking, you're never going to score a nice fat speeding ticket.  I'm losing hope....

I got a parking near a fire hydrant ticket a couple of weeks ago, does that count?

(I don't think I was within 10 feet of the hydrant, but even if I was I've seen cars/bikes park way closer than I did and not get ticketed :rage: )

I've never owned a car with a built in GPS.  But I do appreciate the function now when I do go places I don't know.  I usually stick to the city, and when I'm in the city, I take Ubers.

I paid the fine. I'm sure my insurance will go up. It happened in Columbia on my way back from a track day in charlotte. I pulled over to nap at a gas station after I stopped to refill and it was closed. I woke up and got back to business. I was blasting down what I thought was a 55 road up over a hill. As I crested it I saw the light pop on in the other lane. He asked if I'd been drinking. Nope. Coulda jailed me so happy to pay the fine. Doubt I was going 65 but whatever

How much was the fine?  IIRC, that is your first legitimate ticket.  I don't count camera tickets as legitimate.  Well done, man...

You got whacked pretty hard for that.  Take a bow.... :ohyeah:

The fine for my last ticket (~4 years ago) was just under $200.  But the trooper wrote my speed down.  It would have been north of $300 if he had put down my actual speed.
