I remember living in Landstuhl in the early 1980's and my dad owned a VW Passat wagon.? Horrid orange & brown paint.? But the '76 Audi 100 was probably worse...bright retina-burning orange with a rich green interior!? ?

I don't think the US ever got the Polo.  Unless our Fox was a renamed Polo?

Nope. You never got the Polo. The Fox is based on the brazilian VW Gol (no f here), which we never got. VW models worldwide are a pretty difficult thing...

They get the Gol in certain ME markets, I think. I know I've seen them before.

Get the S40. It is the nicest car out of the three you listed, and if you don't have to worry about price, why not go with the best option?
