As much as JakeMiller (whoever he is :mask:) trolls Infiniti G35s, Chris Wimmer trolls Mercedes...

Other than the S-Class (W221), which is debatable and the GL-Class.... WHAT Mercedes model is there that isn't outclassed by another luxury brand?

C-Class? ->? Who'd be insane enough to buy one over a 3-Series, Audi A4, IS350 or G35
E-Class? ->? BMW 5-Series, Volvo S80 (V8), Infiniti M35x, Audi A6
ML-Class ->? BMW X5, Infinti FX, Lexus RX400h
SL500 -->? ?Porsche 911,? BMW 650ci, even the damn Cadillac XLR

S-Class.... Audi A8, 7-Series, Lexus LS460L

I say, let's form an ANTI-MERCEDES club at CarSpin. What is so impressive about a C280 that makes it start $8000 higher than a 3-series?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to troll here... but other than the name and reputation, what does Mercedes REALLY have?

How much do B200s go for?

A B200 in Toronto starts at $34,120... almost $3k more than an A4 2.0T... and the Turbo starts at $42,000... $2k more than a 325xi.

I would take the C-Class over A4, IS, and G35 if we could get them over here.  But not the 3 series, which seems to be really nice  :rockon:

E-Class would definitely be my choice if I was rich and looking at a saloon.   But I'd guess you'd still be mad to take it over a Camry.

I agree that the B-Class is nothing special.  But what about the CL?  That's not even really got many rivals.  And the SL is much nicer than the 6-Series and totally different from the 911.  XLR?  Are you on crack?  :huh:

I actually quite like the ML too.  It would be a close call with the new X5, but I like it much better than the Infiniti FX and RX400, both of which are much older designs.

S-Class, not too keen on the styling in particular.  But to be fair it has been well received and gone straight to the top in road tests. You kinda contradicted yourself by saying it was the only class leading car, but later on that it's inferior to the 7-Series, A8 etc.  :P

Come now. Don't ask questions you know the answers to.

I'd really like to see the C280 that costs $8000 more than the 3-series. Unless you Canadians have extremely foolish pricing up there, that's not even close to being right.

$8000 isn't far off the mark.

C280 = C$42,800 (3.0L V6, 228hp)
323i = C$35,600 (2.5L I6, 200hp)

$42,800 - $35,600 = $7,200

A more equitable proposition is 323i vs. C230, but even then the C230 is $38,400, which is, if you're still counting, $2,800 more for a mediocre car.

The 328i is better than the C280, and is still $1,800 less than the C280.

Mercedes? Puh... give me the Toyota LS anyday. I mean Lexus, yeah, Lexus...  :devil: :devil: :devil:

C-Class: Originally a POS in W203 form, the facelift took care of most of the critique and the C-Class has become a vastly superior and competitive car in this class. In some Euro comparisons, it even beat the BMW 3-Series to get first place. Still not a sports sedan but a perfect balance between sport and luxury. The Infiniti G35 is still better though.  :praise:

E-Class: The facelift improved interior quality and handling above all. Now, you have a very direct steering feel and sporty suspension that still manages to be comfortable. Read all about my facelifted W211 E280 CDI testdrive here: http://www.germancarzone.com/showthread.php?t=6223

S-Class: This car is usually the class leader, and the same applies to the current W221. It might not appeal to everyone (styling wise), but it has what it takes to be the class leader.

M-Class: Improved offroad and onroad performance. Beats the Toyota Harrier...excuse me (where are my manors?), Lexus RX anyday in almost everything. Sure, reliability seems questionable, but other than that, the Lexus RX isn't a class-leading vehicle. It's a gussied up Toyota Harrier with a cheap price tag and an overrated interior that gets stuck onroad as soon a few droplets of rain fall.  :devil:

The facelifted C-Class isn't mediocre. The original W203 was, but the facelift took care of that. I've driven a ton of them to really feel the differences.

I like the E-class a lot, and the new one that is 4 door with coupe styling (CLS maybe?) but I don't see what the C-class has to offer over the other vehicles in the class.

C-class pricing gets you the BMW 3er, Audi A4, and Saab and Volvo models, any of which I would take before the Benz.

I view the C-class as a Mercedes for somebody who couldn't afford a real Merc (E-class and higher).

You completely echo my sentiments regarding the C-class. There is no other car in its price group that I wouldn't rather have. The C-class is small, cramped, not particularly well put together, the manual gearbox is complete trash... Supposedly the refresh a couple years back fixed the interior a great deal, and they've got better engines now, but even then: it's just not compelling enough for me to like even slightly. If it was bigger and $10,000 cheaper it would be a pretty interesting car, but it's playing with much better cars.

I realize that, but give MB some credit here. The original W203 C-Class was a POS, I totally agree with that. Cheap interior, crappy build quality, nothing about the car felt expensive or worth the asking price.

That all changed when the facelift came. The interior was improved to good standard, still not class-leading, but good materials finally graced the cockpit. The handling and steering qualities were vastly improved. The car could now be considered a sports sedan / luxury car. There were over 2,600 changes made to the W203 C-Class during the facelift. MB really improved the car.

And like I said, I drove a ton of new and old W203 C-Classes and the difference hits you everytime. The new one feels more HQ, solid and better built, handles better, steers betters, has more refined engines (especially amongst the 4-cylinders) and generally feels like a Mercedes should: expensive.

Below, the C180 was a POS original W203. The C320 CDI was one of the latest facelifted C-Class I've driven. The last link is the last C-Class I drove. Pay attention to my comments about the interiors etc.

The E-class offers a more rounded combination of sport and luxury than any of the listed cars, except maybe the A6. It is also the best looking car in the class and the only one available with a diesel. Its price is steep, but it is a great car.

I still believe that the E and S are either best in class or at the top (Most people know how I feel about the E-Klasse). No other luxury car maker produces anything like the SL or anything as beautiful as the CLK.
