Cars are becoming really, really fast nowadays.  The slowest car is almost as quick as my mom's S500.

This article was never in the printed magazine.  What's up with C&D publishing stuff online that isn't published in the printed magazine.  There's this article, the Jeep Patriot "first drive" and the 5-door GTI short take that I've come across thus far.

Not exactly. My Camry retailed for ~$42k and change, whereas a GTI is about ~$32k. Of course we didn't pay anywhere near that.

When are you gonna get us the pics of the Camry?  :P

Cars are becoming ridiculously quick.  Is there any need for all that power?  Wouldn't people be better served by more efficient, economical engines in family cars?

I'm not personally complaining, no.

I'm just wondering what people's views are, seeing as cars like the Camry aren't exactly aimed at enthusiasts like us.

Why all the power? Gotta keep pace with the ever-increasing highway speed limits!

You're my age.  We're getting old.  Plus, now that you're married, your life expectancy has gone way down, since you're more likely to be poisoned by your wife.

So this was just a measure of how fast they were...?

Based entirely on 0-60 times.  If there was a tie, they looked at 1/4 mile time (and if that was also a tie they looked at acceleration times for some higher speed).

That's why 80% of the sales in this class go to the 4-cylinder.  The V6 models generate a lot of interest, though.

I just don't see the point of listing the 10 fastest cars I guess.

Road & Track, C&D, and MT are all doing that now.  In fact they print it in their tests that there is more on the website.

"In 1992, an SHO had a list price of $24,262 - 0-60 acceleration, sec = 6.4 (5-speed manual transmission) - 1/4 mile = 15.1 @ 93 mph - top speed of 141 mph - braking distance 70-0 mph, ft = 181 - roadholding, 300-ft skidpad, g = 0.81 - EPA city / highway = 18/26"

I guess cars really aren't getting that much faster.

It's one thing to have additional content that pertains to a printed article on the website, such as additional photos or C&D's comparison bar graphs, and directing people to the site to view it.  It's another to have entire articles published online without any mention of them in the printed magazine.  I had no clue C&D had done any sort of review or writeup on the 5-Door GTI up until one day when I was searching for a 0-60 time on the GTI and I saw the article come up in the search engine.  Wondering if I had perhaps overlooked the printed article, I went to my magazines and checked the issue from the month that the article was published and it wasn't in the printed issue.  I also hadn't heard about this quickest cars piece up until somebody posted about it on the forum.  It's not mentioned in the printed magazines at all.

Sorry, I should've been more specific - pictures that prove its yours ;)

I would love to be served with humble pie.  Honestly.

I guess as fuel prices go up, the opinion might change regarding power vs economy.  But for the time being, with petrol being so cheap for you guys, why you hold the opinion you do.  I would be the same.

it's not like the V6's are gas guzzers in the first place. many of these cars are pushing 30 hwy mpg, granted you follow the flow of traffic without hitting the brakes and accelerator too often. that's pretty commendable for 250 hp pulling around 3500 lbs

I've made as high as 33 on a 210 mile trip in the Passat.

Inflation on that $24000 is more like $35000 or more nowadays, and for that money, you can get car well under the 5  second range.

Love the new sig, Vin.

Thank goodness John Phillips still is still on C&D, or I'd probably have to stop reading it.

Is $24,160 the price of a V-6 Camry? I thought it was more.

BTW I hate Toyota's website, it make it hard to price out cars.
