Galaxy- those pictures are "renderings"

I wish it looked like that though... however, one could also just get a 328i with nice wheels and a lowered suspension too...
...and a 400hp V8?  Somehow I think not.

Why are those cars only allowed at Car and Driver.  They can't leave the parking lot? :P

Everybody wants pics of my car.  But she's very shy.

(Also it's technically illegal for me to share personal information over the internet because of the nature of my work.  I'm not sure if pics of my car would count as such, but it's a convenient excuse.)

Lazy

Seriously though, I'm sure pics of your car wouldn't count as personal info.  At least post a review or something!  If you don't actually own the car, don't worry either, you can always get pics off eBay  :P

That's why a couple people doubt his ownership. I believe him though.

Unless he has double 00 status I can't see how such a minor detail could possibly be required to remain confidential.

Things I'm not allowed to do because of my security status:

Directly discuss details of my work including the name of the place I work or projects I'm involved in (although I can give it away indirectly.)

Divulge personal information over public domain internet including names (my username is all one word for this reason, although I can answer when referred to by name)

Release any material that may be used to identify me, including pictures of my home or vehicles, although I have already done so before I was had my current security status.

Discuss information pertaining to my security status.  Oh wait a minute...

Nawwwww...

How much is the M3 gonna be, like $55K? How much is the 335i, $40K?

A package to increase boost/power to 400HP wouldn't be more than $2-3K.
Suspension stuffs wouldn't be more than $1500.
Wheels and tires would be less than $2000.
The LSD would be the clincher, but even that would be about $2K with an install.

$8-10K over the cost of a 335i for M3 performance? Sounds like a bargain to me.

First of all, there is no package yet to boost power to 400. Also, there is no LSD yet for the standard E9x. And if you really want to keep making that argument, the same thing could have been said about the E46 330i vs E46M3. A $2K supercharger makes the 330i as fast as the M3.

Yes, you get killed on labor, but I'm sure the M3 has much higher maintenance costs, so IMO it all pans out.

Maintenance is 100% free on all new BMWs for 4years/50K.

For 6 grand, AA sells a supercharger that will get a 323i/325i up to 310bhp.  Add that to the lower weight of the 323 compared to the M3, it would worry many an M3 driver.

I wonder what the M3 convertible will weigh. The hardtop-convertible 335i is in the 3900's (over 300 lbs heavier than the coupe I believe). I hope the M3 convertible has a soft-top, but it doesn't make financial sense to make it with a soft-top.

I wrote a feature on this for the blog a while ago.

The 335i hard top is actually .1 second slower to 60 than the E46 M3 convertible was. Something doesn't add up. I don't know if BMW has even released official info regarding the weight of the convertible. I couldn't find it anywhere.

I have a coupe now and love it. For where im at in life right now i have no need for 4 doors. I think ill be on the losing side of this argument but i prefer the looks of the coupe over the 4 door.?

+1. For me, E92 > E90. E92 M3 is my dream car at the moment (and probably will be for a while).

I am SO glad they didn't move the license plate to the bumper. Makes its rear look fugly like the 6-Series.

Yep. It's far off into the future, but I'll bolt a supercharger onto my car one day.

What I still don't understand, though, is why the M3 is heavier than its siblings. Stiffer chassis? More advanced suspension?

It is usually because of the M3s engine.  In the case of the E46, the S54 powerplant has a 3.2L iron block vs.  the aluminum block M54 (and others) in lesser models.  The e90-e92 model M3 will use a V8 while the lesser models use I6s
Difficult takes a day, impossible takes a week.

Iam doing well sanders thank you. I have just been real busy lately and hardly have time to come by this site. How are things with you. How is your 335i coming along. Is the break in period over with and how many miles do you have on your baby now. Man I have been so busy. I guess you must have posted the pics of your ride. But I missed out on them. What options and color did you get by the way.

The S54 is a heavy engine. It has to be because of the super-high piston linear speeds it has to manage (piston speeds in an S54 are higher than in an M5 V10 or an RS4 V8) It may be possible for BMW to keep the overall weight from rising in the new E92 if the V8 is an aluminum block. Also the V8 should be positioned a bit further to the rear than the S54 in the E46 which would help handling.

It also doesn't help that most M3s are fully loaded with options. In Mexico we can't order one without options. We get a single version, fully loaded (only missing navi and heated seats).
