Big empty stretch...lots of 90 throughout NYS is coned off for some reason...they only seem to be doing work on about a quarter of it.

I got popped doing 55 in a 30 workzone. The speed was normally 40, and no one was around. It was 2 in the morning. I told the officer, "I saw the construction sign but noticed no one was here. I've been driving 5 hours to pick up my friend comming home from Santa Cruz at the gray-hound station. He got stuck here and needs a ride home. Then I'll be out of this town for years." All of it was true.

Don't worry too much about it.  A ticket isn't as bad as an accident.  And since bad things usually come in 2s, you should be done for a while.

What you need to do is get your buddies to take you out for drinks, and buy you alcohol equal in value to the cost of your fine.  I joke about doing this with my friends whenever one of them gets popped.  You might even go to court to argue for a higher fine in that case.....
