The Audi Experience

So Maksx and I went to the mall today, as it was the last day of school. To our surprise, Audi of Mississauga, a local dealership, was doing some advertising in the mall. They had on display a new TT 3.2 Quattro, a Q7 4.2, an A4 2.0TQ, and an A3 2.0T FrontTrak.

The Q7's interior was very nice in my opinion, but Maksx wasn't impressed. The rear seats were adjustable, but too small to fit anything in, IMO. These SUVs (Touareg, Q7, Cayenne) seem to have TINY rear seats compared to their sheer overall size.

TT interior (and some random guy)

By consensus, the new TT is just plain gorgeous. It looked amazing in red, and this one was equipped with the 6-speed gearbox. The shifter was smooth and felt nice to hold. The steering wheel shape really got me; it is really cool looking.

The TT is great.

I also really like the Q7, it's grown on me a lot.

One day......

BTW the guy outside the Q7 windshield in the first pic is not my father.

Lol...

Could you possibly have waited until that fat-body walked through the viewfinder to snap that last shot of the TT?    Otherwise, cool pics...  :P

We were just leaving... and I took one from the above level quicky. All from my cameraphone btw. :P

Nice pics, Trep!  Except for the faTTy next to the TT.  I'm liking the Q7 quite a bit.  I've checked a couple out at the Audi dealer and am pretty smitten with the interior.  Add to that a IIRC 6,600 lb towing limit and room for all 5 of my punk kids (small ones in the back!), and I could see being tempted by one of those in a few years when the Expediter hits a 100k miles.

So you took a picture of a 'random guy' while he was sitting inside the TT and was looking straight at you?

do you mean smooth as in materials used or shift action? there's no way you can tell if a shifter is good or not by rowing through it at an auto show.

VWAG seems to be, thankfully, without an idiot keyless operation function.

Trep, so the guy who is in the first picture of the TT (of the interior), isn't the same "random guy" in the TT?  That watch looks awfully familiar .

Haha, anyways, my bro just got a new Q7 a couple months ago and he LOVES it.  It is definately a very stylish car with a very nice interior.  It even drives pretty good....

Keyless is great.

My brother falls in for the gimmicks too.  The other day at work he yells over at me "The new 5 series has nightvision!"  Then I had to tell him that Cadillac was selling nightvision like 10 years ago.

I don't have much of a problem with a full keyless system.  They are pretty cool and somewhat fitting for a large luxury car.  BMW's standard system, however, boggles the mind.  Why would they think that's a good idea?  Instead of putting your key in and twisting it, you put your key in, and remove your hand, and then push a button.  Idiotic.

But then again, I don't have a problem twisting a key, either.

The ones with pushbutton where you still have to put a key in are stupid.

The one on the Camry Hybrid is great. You keep the fob in your pocket; it senses you approach, it unlocks. You get in, and push the button to start it. It senses if the fob is inside the car itself. I tried it with a demo to hold the key fob out the window, and it wouldn't start.

So, if you're standing next to the car, it unlocks?

No, you have to grab the door handle to pull, and as you touch it, it unlocks.

That's a relief. I had visions of standing beside a Camry, and the door locks popping up and down like Hugh Hefner on a bad batch of Viagra.

When you leave, it locks automatically if

A) The people and key are outside for more than 1,3,5, or 10 minutes (programmable)
B) You push the lock button on the key fob
C) You (with the key) move a ~30ft radius away from the car

That's more or less exactly how it is on the C6, it's great.  I leave the fob in my pocket at all times (don't even keep the back up key on my keychain).  I approach the car and press the "pad" doorhandle, and it unlocks/opens.  Pushbutton start w/o taking anything out of my pocket.  Get out of the car and walk away and it automatically locks.  It won't lock if the fob is in the car.  Makes forgetting to lock your car or locking your keys in the car virtually impossible (an exception is if you somehow leave the fob back in the rear hatch, it won't sense it back there).

It's also a huge plus if, like me, you have a parking garage that requires a fob to open the gate - I can leave the fob on my keychain.

Champ

The S2000 has a push-button start, but you first insert the metal key, turn it to on, then on the other side of the steering wheel is the start button.  Cool to have a start button - but ultimately pointless.

To you guys with keyless fobs:
What happens when you walk away from the car while it is still running, with the fob in your pocket?
The Infinitis would still run but ding a little light at you to show the fob is moving away.
