I tried to stick with cars that had some semblance of of similarity to rally cars you could find in the time period.  Almost all of them had optional AWD or had heavy sharing with rally cars (like the Merkur with the Cosworth Sierra).  Anyhow, as a rallycross fan, your job is to pick which would be your favorite to take out and beat the hell out of.

All of the options were sold in America at some point or another, so once again happy trails.

If your idea of rally crossing would be better spent behind the wheel of an AWD Civic, by all means share, but these ones actually had relatives that made it big on the rally scene were imported to America for sale from the get-go (sorry Group B fans).

ze galant VR-4 please.
but my ideal garage will have a group b homologation special as well.

the Mazda 323 turbo would be my choice above. But given a rally car special, I'll take the Lancia Delta Integrale, please.

Like a fine Detroit wine, this vehicle has aged to budgetary perfection...

I am a fan of the Celica Alltrac, personally.  It stands out a bit from the rest of the rally rockets.  Honorable mention to the Renault and the Mitsu.  The Subaru though...I have seen those in action and they have pretty decent capabilities.  The one I was with was backfiring badly under WOT, but was able to acceptably keep up with two STIs, and Evo, and two WRXs.

I am leaning to the Celica on looks alone.

I love those cars!

But not as much, unfortunately, as I love 205 T16s.

I know someone who has an all-trac. They're pretty quick and seem to handle well. I voted for it.

That lancia is hot, the fact of the matter is that all these cars are fantastic.

Personally though i've always wanted a pulsar GTi-r, don't know if its in this group but i'm pretty sure it was a homoligation special that saw a limited run in rally racing.

I'd love to own one someday, but the closest i'll ever get is probobly making a NX2000/GTi-r hybrid.

I know I'm cheating the Europeans by only including cars that were offered in North America, but we don't have any Lancias, Peugeots, or...oh wait, I completely forgot about the Audi Coupe.  When was its last production year?

On this one, I voted Celica.  While it isn't as "tinkerable" as the Leggie or Galant, it's faster out of the box and smaller.  That wins points with me.

I voted for the Merkur XR4Ti because I once owned one.  It was the exact same colour as the one in the poll photo.

I loved the car but hated the clueless Lincoln-Mercury dealer I had to take it to for service.  These guys didn't have a clue what this car was and had nothing but disdain for Merkurs and Merkur customers.  Unfortunately, no other Ford dealer around would touch it so I had no choice but to go back to that awful L-M dealer.  I sold the car as soon as I paid it off.  I really didn't want to get rid of it but the dealer experience completely soured me on Ford and Ford products.

They weren't.

However, at any car show, I tend to migrate towards the strange and unusual rather then the line of 500 Chevelles and Camaros.

My brother had a Merkur until he forgot the check the oil and the turbo engine exploded.  He wasn't really that good at maintaining cars at that point in his life.  It sure was a fun, ugly car, though.
