How about a Buick Centruy, those have incredibly low insurance rates, are reliable, and are even classier than a Camry.

:praise:

I second this recommendation.

Looked at a few cars tonight. Thanks to some insider deals from my dad's company on ex-leases, a few domestics are on the list.

2004 Impala, 2002 Intrigue GLS, and 2003 Intrepid SE are among the ones we looked at. The Tauruses were all high-mileage and a bit dirty.

$7000? I don't think so.

When did the Cobalt come out?

2005 I believe? I'm sure you can get one for 10,000 maybe less.... considering its low resale value
Worth checking  :ohyeah:

It's a pretty good car for the price.

Fuckus and Intrigue are my top 2 picks currently in this group.  I also think your sister should look at a Honda or something similar.  The only reason I exclude Subarus are because she probably doesn't need or want AWD and extremely fun cars generally seem to be out of the question right now.
2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.

I don't care about all that shit.  I'll be going to college to get an education at a cost to my parents.  I'm not going to fool around.

Well, I don't want a Honda (Civic) over a Corolla because the insurance is significantly higher for Civics than Corollas, and given her accident and high insurance rating, she's got enough on her plate. Otherwise, I know of a 1998 Integra GS-R that my friend's selling.

Then do I sense a 4 door, 4 cylinder Subaru in her future?  Have her get a 2.2 liter car and all will be right with the world.  Plus, they are far cheaper to own, insurance-wise, than a Honda.  No one steals them.

She doesn't need AWD, and I could get a Corolla or Protege cheaper. I see no reason to pay the premium for an Impreza.

FWIW they don't need premium fuel do they? I knew that my uncle's WRX Wagon did.

If it doesn't have a turbo or H6, it probably doesn't need premium.

And since when are used Imprezas more than used 'Yotas and Hondas?

According to CR, first-year Cobalts have had quite a bit of reliability trouble.

If reliability is paramount and there's a strong indication from any source that a car's reliability isn't up there, then anyone who cares about the actual criteria laid out in this advice thread.

nickdrinkwater

I don't know much about them other than that they are often criticised on here for knowing nothing about cars.

Didn't stop you from commenting though, did it?

No sir.  I don't have to know anything about them to ask if anyone gives a shit what they say.

The 2002 Intrigue sounds...intriguing...

In all seriousness though, the Intrigue was definitely the best W-Body car at the time. I would reccomend that from your choices.

Outside of that, someone mentioned an Altima which isn't a bad idea, and a used Ford Focus would be great as well IMHO.

TheIntrepid

Well we've made a decision. She's not getting a car. The Camry's going back to my cousin, who's going to replace the tranny and keep driving it.

Why doesn't she just take the Intrepid after you get your Camry?

I'd takes the trep over a Camry.. a hybrid one no less..  I would be driving like  :mask: if I had a Camry..

Raghavan

Man, Trep's family car situation is so confusing.

Tave

So Trep, what's your mom driving right now? When she switches over to the Dodge, can't your sister take her car?

Apparently the Camry is hers right now, so when Trep gets his Camry their selling her Camry and she's taking his Trep.
