I'm going to buy a tube radio so we can huddle round it and, by the light of a single candle, listen to President Obama's fireside chats.

Wow, that's a huge jump!

I guess toyota really does make a competitive truck! ;)

Submariner

Well, I guess it wouldn't be too unfair to lump the GMC with the Chevy, seeing as they are basicly identical.

And look how close the tundra comes to out selling those two!

Ugh!? I was woefully unimpressed by the new Tundra when I saw it at the GTG at the NY Auto Show.? Maybe the stats are OK, but the overall look and build of the truck left me flat.? I own 6 trucks in my business - 2 F150's and 4 E150's.? They are work horses and can take the punishment of the job and my guys.? I seriously doubt the Tundra door hardware would last 6 months in real world use.? The cheesy exterior trim pieces and pathetic hardware maybe don't help tow 9,000 pounds, but they sure make or break and ownership experience.? I really expected better from Toyota.? Maybe they'll really deliver it next go around - imagine what their sales numbers will be then??  :mask:

Agreed. It just came across as a complete piece of shit.

From the A-pillar forward and the interior, I'm not the least bit impressed with the Tundra.  From the A-pillar back I like it.  I honestly don't understand why they are selling so well.  Oh well, there's no accounting for taste I guess.

It's very similar to the Ram. Aggressive styling and available big engines, identical body configurations, but not as much refinement and not the same interior quality as the competition. I personally don't care for either, but I suppose some 50k+ buyers per month like the idea of it.

More like 21,727 buyers.  Let's not rush things!

Amazing what big rebates and 0% financing can do for Tundra sales

Toyota Tundra
82,840 +42.3% YTD

Ford F-Series
355,438 -11.2% YTD

I like how the F-series can lose 11.2% in sales and the Tundra can gain 42.3% but still the F-series outsells it more than 4 to 1.

Settle down, Yota fanboys.

"But they still sell a lot more" mentality perhaps is comforting to some but in reality it is dangerous; this notion however doesn't really carry any weight were it counts; Detroit's behind-the-scenes finance and marketing people are well aware of the problem presented by lost marketshare in a shrinking market, to be sure - especially so if said organization(s) is(are) teetering on insolvency, or capital group dissolution.

Further, looking solely at the 1/2-ton market, the gap is smaller; at its current pace the Tundra will outsell Sierra 1/2-tons, and quite possibly the Ram 1/2-tons, for 2007...

Years of ignoring increasing sales by imports in the car market is the number one reason why the big three are behind the eight ball today.

But I guess learning from your past mistakes isn't quite as easy as deluding yourself that more is better, is it?
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Plus, the new stuff that is either out or going to be out shortly, such as the F150, is so much nicer that I think the Toyota's sales are going to flatten out here shortly.  Not being a nasayer, just being realistic.

I'd take a Sierra over a Tundra any day of the week.

One thing I kinda like about that Toyota's interior is the way the driver's side of the dash/interior is different from the passenger side.  I've seen other trucks like that (usually larger, big-rig like trucks), but it's a neat feature.

The "work" interior of the Silverado/Sierra is also asymmetrical, but higher quality.

Huh, call me crazy but I like that interior better than the Chevy one above, which I am sure is meant to be the "nicer" version.

CMan

I think pretty much everybody likes the "work" version better.
