What's a Porsche 550 Spyder Doing Into The Mercedes Museum?

Visitors of the Mercedes Museum may notice a car that doesn't feature a three-pointed star on the bonnet.

The Mercedes Museum wanted to celebrate Porsche Museum's 10th anniversary and what better way to show some love than displaying a Porsche 550 Spyder surrounded by the iconic Silver Arrows.

In addition, the Mercedes Museum is also offering to all Porsche employees free admission for ten days, between January 31 and February 10, just by presenting their staff ID.



The two Stuttgart-based museums have been collaborating for years, with visitors treated to a 25 percent discount on their ticket when showing the corresponding ticket from the other museum.

"We send our sincere congratulations to the Porsche Museum and hope our museum ally continues to be as successful as it has been to date," said Christian Boucke, head of Mercedes-Benz Classic. "With the Porsche Museum and Mercedes-Benz Museum, Stuttgart boasts no less than two internationally acclaimed automotive museums. One of the vital reasons many visitors from around the globe come to our city to visit both institutions."

Mercedes and Porsche share a link that goes back over a century ago; before establishing his own company, Ferdinand Porsche was working at the Austrian Daimler (DMG) as a Technical Director from 1906 and even became a member of the Board in 1926 and helped develop several Mercedes models, like the 1924 Mercedes Targa-Florio racing car and the 1928 Type SS compressor sports car.
