Title: The Accord does it again for the last time....
Post by: VTEC_Inside on January 08, 2008, 04:58:14 PM
Passed e-test this afternoon, booyah...

It didn't just squeak by either, it passed by a good margin with barely any HC or CO output.

Assuming no change in the driveclean rules (20yr+ old cars, no test), this was the last time it will have had to go for the stupid test.

How strict is in on a 20-year-old car, and how much do you drive it still?

Thanks guys. This was a lot better than the fiasco I went through the last two times.

As far as I know (and I hope it hasn't changed), once its 20yrs old, no more testing period.

I've only been putting about 12,000-15,000kms a year on it for the last couple years. I use it almost exclusively in the shitty winter weather, but over the summer I only drive it once a week or so to keep it moving.

I just about had a heart attack when I read the title. "Last time"? I was worried the Accord was on its last legs!

Lol, I was about to change the title, but settled on setting the icon to a smiley :) to denote that it was a good thing.

Its definitely getting there though. Part of me wants to cut out a rotted chunk of the quarter this summer, but I doubt I'll be that ambitious.

On a related note, plain jane silicone does a pretty f'in amazing job at sealing rusted surfaces greatly slowing the process.

Hmm--
Good idea, since rust needs air to form..

Hmm... I woke up this morning and it turned out my dad had an executive meeting downtown so he took the Camry. I guess I'm taking the Trep today...

It's there. I'm just not allowed to drive it unless my dad's in the car, because it's under the company insurance.

Just our of curiosity, isn't an idle of 999 rpm rather high?

Yep. I was waiting for someone to catch that actually.

The car has a vacuum driven idle controller that is SUPPOSED to maintain a steady idle speed with changing engine loads.

For reasons I am unaware of that controller doesn't work. The diaphragm holds vacuum, I've replaced the lines, etc... It seemed to start working all of a sudden after I changed the underhood fuel filter, but within an hour stopped again :( I've looked a couple times to see what I may have nudged to no luck.

So, I simply set the idle speed higher :) When I drive at night with the headlights on, heater going full blast, etc... It idles at a more normal 700ish.

Edit: I was actually going to lower it for the test, cause you can do it without tools, but I figured f it... Seems like it didn't matter anyway.
