I really like this show. The last episode I watched was where they got that little red three wheeler based on the Robin.

Though ridiculous (they don't make money on ANY of these) I really like this show. Ed has got to think the short tubby fella is a colossal douche.

I don't really like Mike that much either.  Edd is pretty awesome.

They do make SOME money, but not enough to cover labor costs.

According to a number of people on some of the UK boards who have met Mike Brewer, the whole Cockney Del-Boy schtick is just an act for the show.  Supposedly, he's a pretty decent and knowledgeable guy in real life.  Mind you, he does seem to be getting fatter with each new series.  At this rate, he won't be able to fit inside the damn cars in another couple of years!

Mike's alright. I also can't figure out how they make money, but I guess they get paid for the show and probably do other stuff, too.

They don't make shit on that show. The buy a car make a small "profit" when they sell them. They never include the amount of manual labor they do to them as a cost. You buy a car for $800 and put 50 hours of work into it and sell it for $1000 then you've not made shit.  And I hate how that call the car "restored" at the end of the shows. They've NEVER Restored a car on that show once. The do just a few piss poor repairs and sell the car for jack shit.
That said I still watch it because it's about cars!

Some of their repairs are pretty decent, but I can usually think of a bunch of stuff they should have done if they want to even call it refurbished.

I think he's a collosal douche as well. So much to the point where it's hard to watch the damn show.

Actually, MIke (or his character) is a Brit douche though - a completely different animal - and actually enjoyable I find. I like the show. The one with the Dino was great. They even did a 2nd gen Charger!

It's a great show.  They don't really make that much money, but it goes to show that the average person can buy a relatively inexpensive car and fix it up for not a whole lot.

No, not the average person. The average mechanic, who doesn't mind putting in tons of research and time finding parts and doing all the labor for free, maybe.

HA!

No, it goes to show that the average person can buy an inexpensive car and half-ass it for not a whole of parts money (but a ton of time, being amateur).

The average person can't do even the crapy work they do. The average person hasn't got a shop, lift, air, tools or any of that stuff. And after you buy all that stuff you'll have to make lots of money just to get your money back on the tools. You have to have a shit ton of tools to work on cars and that stuff cost more money then most people know.

Other then my house, my tool box has more money in it then anything else I own. You could probably add both my cars up and not get close to the money in my box.

The second half of Series 9 will be broadcast in the UK beginning on 18th September.  Videos usually get posted on YouTube within a few days and I'll post the links here as soon as they become available.  The first car to be featured will be a Gardner Douglas AC Cobra replica.  Here's the schedule for the rest of the series......

Yep

Plus the guys are kind of dicks

Theyll come up to the dude and be like "Ello ya cheeky cunt. This an em foive innit? Is it runnin? Me though this fing had 8 cylinders mate? Sounds more like froiee" Just no respect whatsoever. Plus yea, who the hell has a free mechanic around to help em fix all the car's problems? Show is like "Flip This House" for cars in a bad way. Still, ANY automotive TV is better than nothing

C'mon, guys. Obviously all that is setup, or at least the buyers and sellers get coached/prepped on what to expect given it's a "reality" show. But true, Edd has vastly more skills, experience and equipment than the average shade tree. Plus, it's Brit humor, which is WAY different than regular humor.

All in all I like the show.

Yeah, the guy is a dick, low balling and haggling the hell out of sellers and telling them straight to their face all the problems with the car (like they didn't know already) and when it comes to selling he's an absolute hardass.

I guess it makes the show work but it's pretty disrespectful.

I dunno about you, but I want to pay the least amount for a car, and then get the most amount for it later. If I have to be a dick to someone I'll never see again to get that, then great, Dickville here we come! Honestly, anything less is only screwing yourself.

Though to be fair, I find that the best tactic usually isn't being a dick.

I just watched the episode when they fixed up a Renault Alpine 310 bought in France.  From the beginning none of it made sense; there are about three 310s registered in the UK and zero market there for them. No way to sell it on for a profit.

It was interesting to see the Alpine & what they did to it, but I had the distinct impression the show is coming to the end of its course, because they're now ranging around continental Europe looking desperately for something different from pulling in old British family saloon cars.

I still enjoy Edd's stuff, and some of the artisans they find to restore bits & pieces. But I think it's time to move on.

That Renault Alpine was from way back in Season 5.  Season 5 was "Wheeler Dealers, On the Road" which had the theme of finding rare, special interest cars on the continent.  Don't worry Morris, Blighty will NEVER run out of old, interesting cars!  The second half of season 8 also had a running theme of Mike finding classic cars in America and shipping then over for Edd to restore.

As long as there are cool old cars in need of help, the fat cockney pillock and his nine-foot-tall mechanic will be there to save them!

According to this the Alpine is Episode 4 of Series 9

I was pretty sure it was a recent season because the years of pie & mash abuse show their effects in Brewer's expansive stomach.

Oops, you're right.  That one was earlier this year.  It's pretty funny how you can determine the age of any given episode of Wheeler Dealers is by the size of Mike's girth and the greyness of Edd's hair!  The day this show comes to an end will be the day Mike finally gets too fat to fit behind of the wheel!

Last episode of the season.

A Mercedes SLK is an odd choice of car for Wheeler Dealers.  It's not very old nor is it very rare.  In fact, I think it's a bit "common", if you ask me.  Still, thanks to Edd's hard work, it came out looking very nice, indeed!
