I think most of us will benefit from some aural communication related to acceleration for now since that is how we learned to drive. I wonder if it will change over time though.

I haven't been on a tram enough to recall what they sound like. It (the Kia EV6 fake engine sound) doesn't sound like a New York City subway though. Plus it's more reliable :)

Quote from: veeman on May 28, 2024, 09:21:38 AMI totally get why the guy likes the silence of the car and yet also prefers the fake engine sound played through the speakers.

Prior to owning an EV, I thought having fake engine sounds played inside the car via the speakers was lame. For an ICE car, I still do. An EV has no engine however so there's no attempt being made to fool anyone. With our Kia EV6 you can choose which "engine" sound to have (there are 3 preset options) as well as the loudness of it.

This guy has them set much louder than the preset volume. I really like them because the car is so silent the fake engine sounds give nice auditory feedback of how fast I am accelerating and to keep an eye on the speed I am cruising. Otherwise I can't tell without looking at the speedometer how fast I'm going. I could easily be going 50 mph in a 35 mph road and not realize it but the fake engine sound subconsciously alerts me that I'm going too fast. Also it's just nice to have some soft auditory feedback of what the car is doing on the road.
Sounds like a streetcar.

I completely missed it along with all other Indy races this year... I did watch some of the parade around Monaco

I was excited for the 500 this year, but the delay killed it for me. I watched Monaco and then had to go do other stuff, couldn't wait for hours for the rain to go away.

The Fast Lane / 911 Hybrid... F1 powertrains!
Last post by r0tor - May 28, 2024, 11:15:58 AM
So cool that Porsche is doing this - basically putting a modern F1 hybrid drivetrain into a 911.

One key bit of tech of a current F1 car is the "MGU-H".  It's a motor/generator sitting between the intake and exhaust sections of the turbo.  The setup allows the motor to assist spinning up the turbo when needed and then when boost is not needed it replaces the traditional bypass valve on the turbo by acting as a generator and slowing the turbo down, converting that energy into electricity, and flowing power to the battery or e-motor.

The other half of the F1 powertrains is the "MGU-K" which is more of a normal hybrid component - used to add power from the battery to the drivetrain and recover energy during braking.

There's a 1991 Taurus SHO for sale an hour from me for $6k.

Very hard to resist- but it would have to be parked outside, and we don't need four cars for two drivers.

I totally get that, too.

Congratulations!

I really like the exterior/interior design and smoothness of the drive of the JGC. I know a lot of people who have a Lexus RX and I think they're similar in price. I'd prefer a JGC to a Lexus RX.
