Someone very aptly compared this to the Porsche/VW saga. "He thought he was doing it... but he wasnt really doing it"
I can't wait until this is turned into a soap opera on TV!
Anthony Hopkins should play Piech!

I dont think there is a writing staff on earth that could come up with the plot twists VWAG has undergone over the last 20 years. You seriously can't make this stuff up. I guess a recap soap opera/movie would be interesting. ESPECIALLY if Piech had creative control. The dude has 14 kids and over 4 baby mamas
I'm wondering if I should unload my VAG stock... Piech has been good to me
Only dead weight at VW is their cheap brands... Porsche, Audi, Bentley etc are uber profitable and growing, VWAG will continue to generate shareholder value, especially without Piech's pet projects like the Phaeton
There would have been no Bentley Continental GT (and later the Flying Spur) without the VW Phaeton. The former was just a restyled and turbo-ed version of the later. Even without the Phaeton, the same engineering and the R&D costs would have been spent anyway.

they have plenty of other chassis to chose from for this stuff.

Phaetons/Continental GTs are just steel Audi A8s. Continental GT was a no brainer, it was going to happen with or without the Phaeton as ditching coachbuilding + sharing a platform would drop the price considerably while not really hurting profit. Phaeton was completely unnecessary

It's probably possible if we hire the writers who wrote for excellent TV shows like
The Mentalist,
Person of Interest etc. :praise:

Now that you mention it, they DO look a lot alike!
I think it would work. After all, Hollywood has a long history of casting British actors to play German baddies.

Two of Piëch's nieces, Louise Kiesling, and Julia Kuhn-Piëch, will take over the position he and his wife had.

The Bentley Continental GT IS a VW Phaeton, not merely using the same platform .... which is BTW, not related to the Audi A8. BTW, the Phaeton came before the Audi A8 D3

And of course, VW has confirmed that the next generation Phaeton will be back in USA.

Yeah, because that worked out so well last time.
Why does VW insist upon sending us a car nobody wants and even fewer will buy?
Meanwhile, you still can't buy a Polo, Up, Scriocco or any VW van over here.
Aside from the AWD, Subaru is doing damn near everything VW is supposed to be. Everyone who wants a small VW CUV, which is probably the biggest gaping hole in their lineup, most likely ends up in a Forester or CX-5. It's only going to get worse with the CX-3 and HR-V.

Huh? You want them to make something smaller than the Tiguan?
I mean, I guess they could...but I don't think tat is a "gaping hole."

Tiguan is not competitive. Overpriced and not very practical
I'm so upset about this.

Indeed, enough to delurk and make a statement.

That's gotta be one of the best looking Audis ever in my book. I love those.

That looks like a 3 or 4 generation old Audi A4/6/VW Passat. It's terribly boring and anonymous and not in a good way (like a Honda Accord)

That's the D3 )previous generation) Audi A8 that came out at the end of 2002 (I think US sales started in mid-2003)

Okay, uhhh. Whether I'm addressing a group or an individual, the word "your" still applies just fine. Not sure what your point is here or whose mouth you're putting words into, but...carry on...? :wtf:

Sshhh, just agree with me. Things go much easier when you allow me to do the thinking for you.

I never understood the point of the Phaeton and beyond that, it was rather uninspiring in terms of the exterior.
But on the flip side, I bet they've come down quite a bit in value from what they originally sold for and might make a good used car option for somebody.
Nah, they're super fragile. Stories of Phaeton ownership are cringe inducing material.
Well never mind then.
I'd rather go with an Audi of some sort.
