Honda is bringing back its iconic Monkey to North America. Went on sale in July. I want one.

You can definitely get a brand new whole motorcycle for that much.

My dream right now is to race pit bikes at local karting tracks

$4k for 9 hp & a 50ish mph top speed? That's gonna be a no for me, dawg.
That's one hell of a niche they're reaching into

I'd rather have a Ruckus.  Less money, less cramped cockpit, nearly the same usability on the street, no plate/insurance necessary...

It's a Grom with retro styling priced at a $500-600 premium.

It would be a great around town scooter, but in the $2000 range. So yeah, $4000 for this is a hell of a niche.

Maybe they should've made this packaging, but with a 49cc instead so it could just be a scooter and not a full-on motorcycle.

A Suzuki GW250, maybe.  Have you looked at new bike prices lately?  Even a TW200 dual sport, which is an old as dirt design, is like $4500.  Not that the Monkey isn't a bit pricy (not sure I consider anything Honda makes to be a value leader), but in that sub-4k price range, you're looking at 50cc scooters, the Grom, and the Z125.  None will do highway speeds.

While not being cheaper, the CB300F is $4350 (only +$150 more than the Monkey w/ ABS), and the Rebel 300 starts at $4450. Both are decent "real bikes"
